04-18-17 | Angels v. Astros -140 | 5-2 | Loss | -140 | 8 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Los Angeles Angels are struggling to score runs as they endure a six-game losing streak. The Angels will try to snap out of the funk and even the four-game series at one win apiece when they visit the Houston Astros today. Los Angeles failed to score more than three runs in any of the last six games and was shut out in the last two, including a 3-0 setback in the series opener on Monday. The Angels managed five hits on Monday, two of which came from reigning MVP Mike Trout, who was the only player in the starting lineup with a batting average over .286. The Astros are streaking in the other direction with wins in five straight behind an offense averaging 7.4 runs in that span. Second baseman Jose Altuve is leading the charge and is 10-for-18 with seven runs scored, four RBIs and four stolen bases in the last five contests. |

04-18-17 | Brewers +152 v. Cubs | 7-9 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The cold April wind at Wrigley Field hasn’t slowed down the Milwaukee Brewers’ powerful offense. The Brewers clubbed three home runs in winning the opener of their three-game series against the host Chicago Cubs, which continues today. The Cubs have lost four straight – all at home – which is one shy of matching their longest skid during last year’s World Series campaign. It also is their longest losing streak at home since 2014. Former Korean Baseball Organization star Eric Thames continues to power the Brewers’ offense, as he has gone deep six times during a five-game home run streak. Ryan Braun and Jett Bandy also belted shots on Monday for Milwaukee, which has hit a major league-leading 25 home runs in 14 contests. |
04-18-17 | Nationals v. Braves +1.5 | 3-1 | Loss | -105 | 7 h 0 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Braves have won five in a row after a 2-6 start to the season, capping a four-game sweep of San Diego with Dansby Swanson’s walk-off single in Monday’s 5-4 victory to improve to 4-0 at their new home, SunTrust Park. Freddie Freeman finished 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs on Monday and is hitting .400 on the season. Atlanta hopes to activate left fielder Matt Kemp (right hamstring strain) from the disabled list during the series, while catcher Tyler Flowers is day-to-day with a right hamstring strain. |
04-17-17 | Diamondbacks +144 v. Dodgers | 4-2 | Win | 144 | 9 h 47 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Ray worked in and out of trouble Tuesday against San Francisco and earned the win after tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings with five walks and eight strikeouts. The 25-year-old continues to struggle with his control with eight walks in his first two starts covering 12 1/3 innings. Yasiel Puig is 5-for-14 with a home run against Ray, who is 3-3 with a 2.96 ERA in eight career starts against the Dodgers, including 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in four outings last season. |
04-17-17 | Indians -143 v. Twins | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 7 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gibson has yet to find his top form while allowing eight runs on nine hits - including three home runs - over nine innings with seven strikeouts and three walks to start the season after struggling in 2016 with a 6-11 record and 5.07 ERA. The 29-year-old Indiana native went 1-8 with a 5.21 ERA at home last season and was 5-3 with a 4.92 mark on the road. Yan Gomes is 7-for-16 with a pair of homers against Gibson, who was 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA in two starts versus Cleveland last year. |
04-17-17 | Pirates v. Cardinals -128 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 6 h 47 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lynn was solid in his season debut as he limited the Cubs to two runs over 5 1/3 frames after missing 2016 due to Tommy John surgery. Josh Harrison is 8-for-22 with a homer against Lynn. St. Louis 3B Matt Carpenter batted .304 with four homers and 14 RBIs against Pittsburgh in 2016. |
04-16-17 | Rangers -107 v. Mariners | Top | 7-8 | Loss | -107 | 4 h 41 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit MLB Play of the Day This is a great price on Cole Hamels. The Rangers' lefty ace was actually in a similar range against both the Indians and Angels, but considering how Seattle has played, this spot looks like a bargain. Yes, Hamels has an 0-2 TSR, but he didn't factor into the decision either time. It had been an ugly 2-8 start for Seattle before taking the first two games of this series. They've held Texas to just one run and it was a 5-0 shutout yesterday. However, the Mariners are only 7-14 the L3 seasons following a shutout victory. While Texas is 13-6 after getting shutout, over the L3 seasons. |
04-16-17 | Pirates +162 v. Cubs | 6-1 | Win | 162 | 3 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Pirates prevailed in the first two games of this NL Central rivalry, and they are poised for a sweep at Wrigley Field with a victory today. James Taillon was a money-maker for the Bucs in 2016 (+$605, 3.50 ERA in 19 starts) and he has looked sharp in his first two outings this season (1.38 ERA). The Pirate racked up huge profits vs. lefties last year (20-9, +$1495, 5.7 runs per game on offense) while Chicago lost money in day games (-$735 overall). Inflated price on Jon Lester makes the road underdog is too good to pass up. |
04-16-17 | Angels v. Royals +105 | 0-1 | Win | 105 | 2 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units After going 1-1 with a 2.64 ERA in his final three turns of last season, Skaggs has struggled mightily in 2017, giving up a total of 10 runs - and three homers - over 11 1/3 innings in his first two outings. He has 77 strikeouts in 74 2/3 innings as a member of the Red Sox but a 5.21 ERA in his career at Fenway Park, spanning 11 games (seven starts). Brad Miller is 6-for-13 with a home run against the 28-year-old Pomeranz, who has a 2.31 ERA in his career against Tampa Bay after three encounters late last season. |
04-16-17 | Brewers v. Reds -105 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -105 | 1 h 47 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit National League Play of the Day Romano has earned the chance to make his big-league debut after an excellent spring and two strong starts for Triple-A Louisville. The 23-year-old has posted a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in his first two starts in the minors this season. Romano is starting in place of fellow rookie Rookie Davis, who is on the 10-day disabled list after being hit by a pitch on the forearm Tuesday at Pittsburgh. |
04-16-17 | Orioles v. Blue Jays -102 | 11-4 | Loss | -102 | 1 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Happ has yet to find the top form that led to a career-high 20 wins last year, but held the Orioles to three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts over seven innings on April 5 in a 3-1 loss. The 34-year-old Northwestern product has struck out 17 without a walk over the first 11 2/3 innings of 2017. Happ, was 11-2 at home and 2-0 versus Baltimore in 2016. |
04-15-17 | Angels v. Royals +107 | 2-3 | Win | 107 | 7 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units LAA starter Shoemaker endured his roughest outing in almost a year but escaped with a no-decision Sunday against Seattle after giving up seven runs - six earned - on five hits and a pair of walks over 4 1/3 innings. The Michigan native struggled mightily in April last year as well (1-4, 9.11 ERA) before posting a 3.10 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 22 turns after May 11 following a brief demotion. Shoemaker fell to 0-3 with an 11.34 ERA in four starts against the Royals last year after yielding five runs over six frames in a loss on July 27. |
04-15-17 | Tigers +140 v. Indians | 6-13 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Detroit Tigers are in position to win their third straight series and two-time American League MVP Miguel Cabrera is starting to warm up as they visit the Cleveland Indians for the second of a three-game set today. Cabrera homered for the second straight game Friday as the Tigers built a big lead before holding off a furious rally for a 7-6 victory - their seventh in the first 10 games of the season. Detroit starter Verlander picked up where he left off last season by limiting his first two opponents (Boston and the Chicago White Sox) to three runs (two earned) on nine hits over 13 1/3 innings. The 34-year-old former MVP, who owns 174 career wins after going 16-9 in 2016 with a 3.04 ERA, has 14 strikeouts and two walks in the early going. |
04-15-17 | Astros -145 v. A's | 10-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Houston starter, McCullers settled for a no-decision against Kansas City on Sunday after allowing three runs and six hits in seven innings. The 23-year-old Floridian did not walk a batter and reached double digits in strikeouts for the seventh time in his brief career, falling one short of his personal best of 11 set on June 3, 2015 versus Baltimore. McCullers has made three career starts against Oakland, going 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA. Oakland starter, Manaea also recorded 10 strikeouts in his last outing but suffered the loss as he surrendered six runs - five earned - on three hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings at Texas on Sunday. |
04-15-17 | Orioles v. Blue Jays -145 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 1 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Baltimore starter, Asher has never faced the Blue Jays and made just one start against an American League team, giving up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings against Boston. Toronto starter, Estrada gave up two runs over six innings against Baltimore to open the season. The 33-year-old from Mexico, is 4-1 with a 3.20 ERA in his career against Baltimore. |
04-15-17 | Cardinals -105 v. Yankees | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -105 | 2 h 33 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Units MLB Play of the Day St. Louis will try to turn a corner behind Opening Day starter Carlos Martinez, who opposes Yankees southpaw CC Sabathia. Martinez had an impressive debut. He has walked just one batter in 12 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old has two scoreless innings of relief in his career against the Yankees, but has seen plenty of Castro (1-for-11 against Martinez). |
04-14-17 | Rangers v. Mariners -140 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 8 h 4 m | Show |
Rating: 2 Units Texas starter Perez continued to struggle with his control Sunday against Oakland as he issued three more walks to give him seven in 11 1/3 innings, but he worked around six hits to toss 5 1/3 scoreless frames en route to a win. The 26-year-old will pitch on the road for the first time in 2017 hoping to forget about last season's woes away from home (2-8, 5.78 ERA). |
04-14-17 | White Sox v. Twins -150 | 2-1 | Loss | -150 | 7 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Covey was picked 14th overall by Milwaukee in the 2010 draft, but went to the University of San Diego instead before being picked by Oakland in the fourth round in 2013. The White Sox acquired the 25-year-old Californian in the Rule 5 Draft last December after he went 4-0 in the Arizona Fall League. Covey was 2-1 with a 1.84 ERA in Double-A with Oakland last season but has had trouble this spring while recording a 7.82 ERA in 12 2/3 innings of work. |
04-14-17 | Angels v. Royals -1.5 | Top | 1-7 | Win | 150 | 6 h 23 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Units After going 7-0 with a 3.57 ERA in 22 appearances (15 starts) at Kauffman Stadium in 2016, Duffy draws his first assignment of the new season at home after holding Houston to two runs in seven frames en route to a win on Saturday. It was a solid follow-up performance for the California native, who allowed one run and struck out eight over six innings in a no-decision on Opening Day at Minnesota. |
04-14-17 | Rays v. Red Sox -132 | 10-5 | Loss | -132 | 5 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Porcello gave up four runs (three earned) and 11 hits in six frames of a no-decision at Detroit last Sunday. The 28-year-old went 5-0 with a 3.07 ERA in six starts against Tampa Bay last year and has a 3.03 mark in 17 career matchups. Porcello will be mindful of Corey Dickerson (7-for-19, one homer against him) and Logan Morrison (8-for-22) as he looks to improve upon a 21-9 career mark at Fenway. Tampa Bay starter Archer, is 1-11 lifetime against Boston and has a 7.30 ERA in five Fenway Park starts. |
04-14-17 | Tigers v. Indians -1.5 | Top | 7-6 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 9 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Units Norris was held out of the decision in his season debut after yielding three runs, seven hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a 7-5 loss to Boston last Sunday. Cleveland starter Alex Avila is 6-for-16 with a homer against Bauer, who was 2-1 versus Detroit in 2016. |
04-14-17 | Orioles v. Blue Jays -139 | 6-4 | Loss | -139 | 5 h 46 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Sanchez worked seven strong innings at Tampa Bay in his season debut on Saturday but settled for a no-decision. The 24-year-old Californian allowed just one run on four hits and three walks while recording six strikeouts. Sanchez is 5-2 with a 3.88 ERA in 13 career appearances (eight starts) against Baltimore. Baltimore starter Miley has struggled against Toronto in his career, going 1-4 with a 5.57 ERA in six starts. |
04-14-17 | Cardinals +126 v. Yankees | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 19 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Cards have gotten off to a lackluster start in 2017, but they look like a live underdog in tonight's series opener. Masahiro Tanaka has struggled in his first two outings (-$215, 11.75 ERA) and he'll be taking on a St. Louis squad that dominated right-handed starters on the road last year (35-23, +$1540). Michael Wacha looked sharp in his season debut (1.50 ERA), so I'll stick with the visitor in tonight's game. |
04-13-17 | Rockies v. Giants -155 | 3-1 | Loss | -155 | 11 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Bumgarner has been as good as advertised through his first two starts but was the hard-luck loser on Saturday, when he allowed two runs over eight frames in a 2-1 setback against San Diego. The four-time All-Star belted two home runs on Opening Day and has hit 13 in his last 202 at-bats. Gonzalez is 18-for-56 with five homers and 10 RBIs against Bumgarner, who is 12-6 with a 2.99 ERA in 25 career starts against the Rockies - including 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA in three outings last year. |
04-13-17 | Brewers v. Reds +104 | Top | 5-1 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 22 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Units MLB National League Play of the Day Arroyo struggled in his return to the Reds on Saturday, surrendering six runs on six hits - two homers - and three walks in four innings at St. Louis. The 40-year-old Floridian pitched for Cincinnati from 2006-13, going 105-94, but has not appeared in the major leagues since 2014 with Arizona due to Tommy John surgery and subsequent elbow soreness. Arroyo has recorded 16 wins - his most versus any team - against 10 losses with one complete game and a 3.54 ERA in 34 career outings (31 starts) against Milwaukee. |
04-13-17 | Rays v. Yankees -138 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Andriese needs to put together a few strong performances to keep his hold of the No. 5 starter role after allowing five runs (four earned) and seven hits against Toronto last Friday. The 27-year-old California native went 2-6 with a 6.03 ERA after the All-Star break last season and may end up in the bullpen if he cannot show some progress soon. Judge (3-for-4, homer) and Headley (3-for-9, two homers) have caused trouble for Andriese, who was 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA versus New York last year. |
04-13-17 | Orioles v. Blue Jays -113 | 2-1 | Loss | -113 | 2 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gausman has a 5.64 ERA in 5 games at the Rogers Centre the past three years - to go along with a .314 BAA / 1.61 WHIP and allowing 6 homeruns in just 22.33 innings (2.42 HR/9). Gausman has a respectable 3.77 ERA the past three seasons but a 4.54 road ERA compared to a 2.93 home ERA. He's faced lefty batters and righty batters an even amount of time but has a .238 BAA/.670 OPS against lefty batters and .280 BAA/.784 OPS against righty batters. |
04-13-17 | Rangers -121 v. Angels | 8-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Darvish has gone winless in his first two starts for the first time in his major-league career but threw well in his last outing, allowing one run over six innings in a 6-1 loss to Oakland. The 30-year-old is 7-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 13 career turns against the Angels, including a 5-1 mark and 3.14 ERA in his last nine outings. Trout is 10-for-37 with four homers against Darvish, who is 13-6 with a 2.74 ERA in 28 career day starts. |
04-13-17 | Twins v. Tigers -129 | 11-5 | Loss | -129 | 2 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Zimmermann allowed one run, four hits and one walk while striking out three in six innings of a 4-1 victory over Boston on Saturday for his first victory since June 14. Zimmermann is 3-0 with a 3.43 ERA in three starts versus Minnesota and has little trouble with Brian Dozer (1-for-10, four strikeouts), who hit his first home run of the season Wednesday after belting 42 in 2016. |
04-12-17 | Dodgers v. Cubs -130 | 2-0 | Loss | -130 | 3 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lackey gave up three runs in the first inning of his season debut at St. Louis, but he settled in and pitched well the rest of the way to earn the win. The 38-year-old was charged with four runs (three earned) over six innings and struck out seven. Lackey has fared well in 12 games (11 starts) against the Dodgers, going 6-3 with a 1.75 ERA, including seven innings of shutout ball in the most recent meeting in 2015. |
04-12-17 | A's v. Royals -113 | 8-3 | Loss | -113 | 3 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hammel made a decent debut for his sixth team at Minnesota on Thursday in a no-decision, allowing three runs and six hits over five innings, but four walks bumped his pitch count up to 95. The 34-year-old South Carolina native won a career-high 15 games with the World Champion Chicago Cubs last year and is 21-10 in the month of April in his 12 major league seasons. Rajai Davis and Khris Davis each homered against Hammel, who is 4-1 with a 3.75 ERA in seven games (three starts) against Oakland. |
04-12-17 | Brewers v. Blue Jays -1.5 | 2-0 | Loss | -115 | 2 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Milwaukee starts Chase Anderson who is horrible against right-handed batters. His past three seasons he has a .231 BAA and .708 OPS against LHB but against RHB he has a .299 BAA and .845 OPS. Yet his overall numbers are decent (4.26 ERA / .784 OPS) because he has only faced 55.6% RHB during that time compared to 44.4% LHB. Last season he had a .203 BAA and .664 OPS against LHB but a .313 BAA and .935 OPS against RHB. He looked good in the first start of the season allowing just 3 hits (1 homerun) and 2 walks while striking out four batters through six innings - but you probably guessed that homerun (the only run he gave up) was to a RHB. Well, today he'll be facing NINE right handed batters in a homerun friendly ballpark. |
04-11-17 | Diamondbacks v. Giants -125 | 4-3 | Loss | -125 | 9 h 13 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Samardzija is facing Arizona for the second time in less than a week after allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings in last Thursday’s 9-3 loss. The 32-year-old is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 13 career games (eight starts) against the Diamondbacks, including 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA in three outings last season. Jake Lamb is 4-for-10 with a home run against Samardzija, but Paul Goldschmidt (5-for-24, home run) and Daniel Descalso (3-for-20) have each struggled against the 2014 All-Star. |
04-11-17 | Rangers +106 v. Angels | 5-6 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 7 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hamels received a no-decision in his season debut against Cleveland last Wednesday, when he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings. The 33-year-old, who led the AL with 10 road victories last season, has gone 22-6 over 45 regular season starts since joining the Rangers in 2015. The Southern California native is 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA in five career starts against Los Angeles, including 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in two outings at Angel Stadium. |
04-11-17 | Padres +1.5 v. Rockies | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Weaver made his debut for San Diego on Thursday after spending the first 11 years of his career with the Los Angeles Angels and surrendered four runs on five hits - two homers - and three walks over five innings of a road loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 34-year-old Californian has faced only three members of Colorado's current roster, who are a collective 2-for-11 against him. Weaver settled for a no-decision in his only career start against the Rockies despite allowing just two runs and striking out 11 in seven frames. Colorado starter Senzatela, struggled to an 0-4 record and 4.61 ERA as opponents batted .330 against him in eight appearances - five starts - during spring training. |
04-11-17 | Brewers v. Blue Jays -1.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 22 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit MLB Play of the Day The Blue Jays are 16-5 in their last 21 interleague home games vs. a team with a losing record, 20-7 in their last 27 interleague home games vs. a right-handed starter, and 17-8 in their last 25 interleague home games. |
04-11-17 | Mets -138 v. Phillies | 14-4 | Win | 100 | 6 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Harvey’s first start since last July went according to plan as he recorded a victory over Atlanta on Friday after allowing two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings. While Harvey’s velocity coming off thoracic outlet syndrome surgery was concerning in spring training, he hit the mid-90s with his fastball in the opener and effectively mixed it with a slider and change-up. Harvey is 6-2 with a 2.65 ERA in nine career starts against the Phillies. |
04-10-17 | Dodgers v. Cubs -142 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 5 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lester gets the honor of starting the home opener after also taking the ball on Opening Day in St. Louis. The 33-year-old struck out seven and allowed one run and seven hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals. Lester is 2-2 with a 3.06 ERA in five career starts versus the Dodgers and allowed just one run over 15 innings against them last season. |
04-10-17 | Reds +129 v. Pirates | 7-1 | Win | 129 | 9 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Brandon Finnegan gets the start for Cincinnati and he's a pitcher that is very much under the radar. We all know that he is left-handed pitcher with a fastball that maxes out at 96 MPH and most know that he has a nasty slider but what began emerging in the second half of last season was the improvement of his change-up. These adjustments contributed to him posting a Post-All Star Break ERA of 2.93 and .230 BAA. There are, technically at least, a few changeups that improved more in the second half than Finnegan's did last year but there were no changeups that added as much fade, drop, and velocity gap combined that were also attached to a player as young and possibly exciting as the Reds' lefty. His change-up was thrown 333 times last season and was only safely hit seven times (six of those times being singles) - good for a .092 BAA against his change-up in comparison to 2015 when it was hit at a rate of .273 (and only thrown 51 times). |
04-10-17 | Mets -138 v. Phillies | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units DeGrom showed no ill effects from his elbow surgery in September as he struck out six and limited Atlanta to two hits over six scoreless innings on Wednesday. The 28-year-old Floridian settled for a no-decision and has gone six starts without a victory since defeating the New York Yankees on Aug. 2. DeGrom has gone 4-0 in seven career turns against the Phillies, including a one-hit shutout on July 17 at Philadelphia. |
04-10-17 | Cardinals v. Nationals -1.5 | Top | 6-14 | Win | 166 | 9 h 4 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit MLB Play of the Day The Cardinals have lost their first two series of the season, dropping two of three at home to both the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati. St. Louis was shut out twice by the Reds, including an 8-0 drubbing in Sunday’s series finale. No one in the Cardinals’ starting lineup ended the game with a batting average over .300, and the club has recorded just 11 extra-base hits through six games. Washington starter, Roark was excellent in his season debut, limiting Miami to two runs and three hits over six innings with six strikeouts. The 30-year-old retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced and gave up just one extra-base hit. |

04-06-17 | Blue Jays -134 v. Rays | Top | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 2 h 52 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Units The Blue Jays led the American League in BB% at 10.1% so if he doens't have control over his pitches it could be a long day for Snell. Blue Jays should get their men on base against Snell we just have to hope that they don't leave them stranded as they did in their series against Baltimore (hitting 1 for 16 with men in scoring position). Snell faced Toronto twice last season and gave up 6 runs (3 earned) in just 7.2 innings of work. He had a .747 OPS against right-handed batters compared to a .656 OPS against left-handed batters and tonight, unfortunately for him, he will be facing NINE right handed batters. |

Miguel Cabrera (.375 in 64 at-bats) has had terrific success against Shields, while Ian Kinsler homered four times against him in 61 at-bats. |
04-06-17 | Cubs -127 v. Cardinals | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 1 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lackey was a solid, if unspectacular, addition to the Cubs’ rotation last season, as Chicago went 17-12 in his starts. Lackey is 12-4 with a 2.02 ERA in 24 career starts in St. Louis, where he pitched for the Cardinals in 2014 and 2015. The 38-year-old faced his former team four times last season, going 1-1 with a 2.03 ERA. |
04-05-17 | Mariners +106 v. Astros | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Paxton will be facing a familiar foe in his season debut as he made two of his final three starts of 2016 against the Astros. The 28-year-old Canadian, who led all left-handed starters in the major leagues by averaging 96.8 miles per hour on his fastball last year, finished the campaign with a victory at Houston on Sept. 28. Houston starter Morton, who never has faced Seattle, is 46-71 with a 4.54 ERA, three complete games and two shutouts in 162 career games - one relief appearance - with Atlanta, Pittsburgh and the Phillies. |

Hamels notched his first win in four career starts versus the Indians on Aug. 25 after allowing two hits and fanning eight over as many scoreless innings. |
04-05-17 | Phillies v. Reds -105 | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Eickhoff has never pitched against Cincinnati in his career but likely will face a lineup loaded with left-handed hitters, as southpaws batted .275 with an .816 OPS against him in 2016. Scooter Gennett, who hit a two-run homer in Monday's opener, is 2-for-6 lifetime with a homer against Eickhoff. Cincinnati starter Finnegan, in his first season as a full-time starter, took the ball 31 times in 2016 and generally was more effective in the second half of the season (2.93 ERA) than the first half (4.71) and has struck out Hernandez three times in four career at-bats. Lefties hit only .218 against Finnegan last season with two home runs in 142 at-bats. |

The 34-year-old Illinois native was sharp in spring training, posting a 1.76 ERA in 15 1/3 innings over four starts, striking out 10 and allowing nine hits. Happ is 4-3 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 12 games (11 starts) versus Baltimore - 2-0, 3.54, 1.08 in three starts last season - and is holding the Orioles' roster to a collective .229 batting average. 04-05-17 | Marlins +1.5 v. Nationals | 4-6 | Loss | -150 | 2 h 40 m | Show

He settled in after a shaky first half, going 10-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 15 starts after the All-Star break. Straily, posted a 3.21 ERA but did not get a decision in two starts last season against the Nationals. Rating: 2 Units The Angels are 9-2 last eleven games in this series. While the Athletics Sean Manaea is 0-2 career team starts in this series. Matt Shoemaker is off a fine spring camp in which he had 21 K’s and only 5 BB’s, I recommend a play on the L.A. Angels. |
04-04-17 | Giants -149 v. Diamondbacks | 8-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units San Francisco starter Cueto arrived late to camp due to personal issues but appears to be in midseason form after posting a 1.50 ERA in three spring training starts. The 31-year-old was as good as advertised in his first season with the Giants last year while throwing 219 2/3 innings with five complete games among his 32 starts. Jake Lamb is 5-for-14 with a home run against Cueto, who is 9-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 13 career starts against Arizona. Arizona starter Corbin has struggled against Hunter Pence (12-for-25, four homers) and owns a 4-5 mark and 3.46 ERA in 16 career games (14 starts) against San Francisco. |
04-04-17 | Cubs -137 v. Cardinals | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 7 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units If Opening Night was any indication, the rivalry between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will provide plenty of thrills in 2017. The Cardinals host the reigning world-champion Cubs for the middle contest of their three-game series today after claiming a walk-off win in the season opener. Randal Grichuk’s RBI single in the ninth inning gave the Cardinals the victory in the roller-coaster contest after Chicago’s Willson Contreras tied the game with a three-run blast in the top of the frame. Grichuk also hit a two-run homer in the eighth and is a career .271 hitter with 17 extra-base hits in 36 career games against the Cubs. Chicago continues to give St. Louis closer Seung Hwan Oh fits, as they’ve accounted for three of the six home runs he has allowed in his brief career - including two by Contreras. St. Louis 1B Matt Carpenter is 1-for-27 with eight strikeouts versus Arrieta. |
04-04-17 | Yankees v. Rays -104 | 5-0 | Loss | -104 | 2 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Although he went 1-0 against the Rays last season, Sabathia also logged an ugly 5.52 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in three starts covering 14 2/3 innings vs. them. On the opposing side, few starters in the league had as dominant a second half in 2016 as Rays RHP Jake Odorizzi. All Odorizzi did after the All-Star break was go 7-1 with a 2.71 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 14 starts covering 83 innings. Odorizzi will look to carry that hot streak into 2017, and based on his solid Spring training campaign, there's no reason to think that at just 27 years old, he won't be able to. And Odorizzi does by far his best work at home, where he has a 3.14 career ERA in 50 starts (vs. just 4.43 in 48 starts elsewhere). |
04-04-17 | Tigers -127 v. White Sox | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Detroit Tigers may soon run out of time with a star-laden roster loaded with veterans, but they hope to have enough in the tank to make a return to the postseason in 2017. That quest begins in Chicago today. when the Tigers and White Sox open their regular seasons in the first of three games at Guaranteed Rate Field after Monday's game was rained out. Veteran slugger Miguel Cabrera returns for his 10th season in Detroit to anchor the lineup and 34-year-old Justin Verlander gets the Opening Day start after authoring a spectacular rebound in 2016. The rebuilding White Sox have endured four straight losing seasons and will be hard-pressed to end that streak in the challenging American League Central division. Gone is ace Chris Sale, yielding the top spot in the rotation to fellow left-hander Jose Quintana, who will be making his first Opening Day start. |
04-03-17 | Indians -114 v. Rangers | 8-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 13 m | Show

The 30-year-old Alabama native, who posted a 9-1 record after the All-Star break last year, has completed at least 215 innings and struck out at least 227 in three straight seasons, and he limited opponents to a .210 batting average on the road in 2016. Adrian Beltre is 4-for-10 with a homer versus Kluber, who is 2-1 with a 3.67 ERA in four career games against Texas. |
04-03-17 | Royals -105 v. Twins | 1-7 | Loss | -105 | 4 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Kansas City is counting on another big performance from Eric Hosmer, who led the team with a career-high 104 RBIs in 2016 and placed second with 25 home runs - also a personal best. Minnesota finished with 103 losses last season - the most in the major leagues - and figure to have a difficult time recording more than the 59 victories it posted. The Twins will begin the campaign without Byung Ho Park as the South Korean slugger was re-assigned to minor-league camp despite having a superb spring at the plate (.353 average, six home runs, 13 RBIs in 19 games). Robbie Grossman likely will be the team's designated hitter and Jorge Polanco is the starting shortstop, while closer Glen Perkins (shoulder) is headed for the 60-day disabled list. |

Martinez will be the youngest Opening Day starter for St. Louis since Joe Magrane in 1989. Good value here with theCardinals. |
