No. 3 Alabama Clashes with No. 23 Penn State in Week 2 Tilt

Both the Alabama Crimson Tide and Penn State Nittany Lions disposed of their cupcake Week 1 opponents with ease, now, with Week 2 right around the corner they’ll face a slightly more difficult challenge: each other.

As much as NCAA fans may cringe at top-ranked clubs knocking each other down the polls list early on in non-conference showdowns, the drama and intensity is what fuels the college football betting community (sorry Oregon).

With the BCS futures board a fluctuating, dynamic organism, these early season contests are what can make or break a season – not to mention a payout.

Heading into their Week 2 Saturday tilt, SEC juggernaut Alabama is ranked No. 3 in the nation, Penn State of the Big Ten isn’t far behind at No. 23. Rest assured, however, one of the two will suffer a significant drop the next time rankings are announced.

NCAA football odds heading into the match show Alabama as the -10 favorite.

Can the Crimson Tide, fresh off a 48-point showing against Kent State, count on running back Trent Richardson to power his way to three or more touchdowns against the Penn State defense? They might need it.

Though the Nittany Lions may not exactly instill horror in a perennial national contender like Alabama, their Week 1 explosion isn’t to be ignored. Against Indiana State, the Lions reaped five rushing touchdowns, two alone from sophomore back Silus Redd.

If Redd can get on the board early on and match the production of Heisman candidate Richardson, it may simply come down to which defense can overwhelm which squad’s quarterback more.  I feel like Alabama will win this game because Penn State won’t be able to handle the very good Crimson Tide defense.
