While this pitching matchup seems pretty close on paper considering the recent surge of Robbie Ray, I do believe that the Braves are the significantly strong team and will have much more offensive success on Sunday afternoon. Other than his meeting early this season with the Braves, Ray has been quite sub par against Atlanta over his career. He's got rather average numbers this season in whole as well. That being said, I expect the Braves to control this game from the first pitch.

I'm backing Canada in Sunday's Round of 32 matchup. Jesse Marsch has this team playing with confidence, and their aggressive high press has been one of the biggest weapons at this World Cup. Canada scored 8 goals in the group stage by forcing turnovers and immediately turning them into quality scoring chances. The expected return of Alphonso Davies is another reason I like the Canadians. Even if he doesn't go the full 90 minutes, his speed changes the game and gives South Africa one more player they have to account for. South Africa has done well to reach the knockout stage, but I think Canada's pace, attacking depth, and relentless pressure eventually wear them down. The last play I cut for Sunday is with the Atlanta Braves with the money-line versus the San Francisco Giants listing both starting pitchers Chris Sale and Robbie Ray. Atlanta (49-32) has last five of their last six games after their 5-0 loss on the road against the Giants yesterday. The Braves have won 20 of their last 31 games after losing their last contest. They have also won 16 of their last 22 road games when priced as a money-line favorite at -110 or higher. San Francisco (34-48) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win. But the Giants have lost 26 of their last 40 games when listed as a money-line underdog priced up to +150. They have also lost 20 of their last 27 games with the Total set in the 7-7.5 range. Dodgers vs Padres MLB Free Pick

The Angle: We won with the Los Angeles Dodgers as they bounced back from a series-opening loss to win 15-3 and end the Padres 4-game winning streak yesterday. That being said, I like the price we get on the Friars in the series-finale. 

The Dodgers hand the ball to right-hander Emmet Sheehan (3-5, 5.32 ERA), who simply cannot be trusted in his current form. Sheehan has been heavily rocked lately, struggling through a brutal stretch that includes getting tagged for 6 earned runs and 8 hits over just 3 1/3 innings in his last outing against Baltimore. Furthermore, he has already shown vulnerability against this San Diego lineup, giving up 4 runs to them earlier this year.

The Padres counter with Michael King (5-6, 3.33 ERA), who is throwing the ball with elite confidence. King is fresh off a brilliant, masterful performance against the Braves where he tossed 7 scoreless innings of 6-hit ball. He also blanked this elite Dodgers order over 7 shutout frames earlier in the season. With King dictating the tempo from the opening frame and Sheehan struggling mightily with his structural command, expect the Padres to take the finale. 

The Bet: Padres (3%).

Our models suggest that the value is on the Over. The Over is 3-1 in Aaron Civale last 4 starts for the A's. The Over is 3-1 in the A's last 4 road games.

The Athletics are live here because this is more about line value and matchup flaws than trusting Aaron Civale blindly.

Civale’s recent form is ugly, but the market has not ignored it. Even with a 9.43 ERA over his last five starts and a 12.27 ERA over his last three, Oakland is still laying a short road price. That says the number is being driven by how vulnerable Los Angeles is on the other side.

Sam Aldegheri is not a comfortable underdog arm. His 2026 ERA is 5.47, his WHIP is 1.50, and the last three-start split is worse: 8.53 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 14 hits and seven walks in 12.2 innings. That is a lot of traffic against an Oakland lineup projected for 5.50 runs.

The A’s have also had the better season profile. Oakland is 40-43 while the Angels are 35-49, and the money loss gap is substantial: Athletics -176 compared to Angels -731. Los Angeles is still five games worse despite the recent 5-2 stretch.

Head-to-head also leans Oakland. The A’s are 6-4 against the Angels this season and have already won four of six in Anaheim, including 14-6, 6-5, 3-2, and 9-3 results. They have repeatedly shown they can score in this park against this staff.

The injury report is another edge. Oakland is missing important bats, but the Angels’ list is deeper and more damaging, led by Mike Trout on the IL along with multiple catchers, infielders, and bullpen arms. That matters in a high-total game where depth and late offense can decide it.

The bullpen comparison is the main caution, as the Angels’ pen has been much better statistically. But Oakland’s available bullpen has arms rested, while Los Angeles shows no available bullpen innings in the Covers table. If Aldegheri gives them only four or five innings, that becomes a real stress point.

Bottom line: Civale is not the reason to back Oakland. The case is that the A’s are the better overall team, have controlled this head-to-head, face an erratic young starter with poor recent form, and are priced only around -120. ActionNetwork power ratings has this line at -139
