2026 NFL Power Ratings & Prediction Center: Week 1 Rankings & Projected Lines

NFL power ratings 2026 Week 1 rankings and projected lines

2026 NFL Power Ratings – Week 1 Updated September 5, 2026

The NFL power ratings from Rocketman Sports rank all 32 NFL teams by their estimated strength on a neutral field and turn those ratings into projected point spreads for every game.

Unlike a simple 1-through-32 opinion ranking, the Rocketman NFL Power Rating — or RPR — assigns every team a numerical value in points.

That allows us to answer a much more useful betting question:

What should the point spread be?

We can then compare our projected line with the current sportsbook market to identify potential value, public overreaction and Buy Low / Sell High opportunities throughout the 2026 NFL season.

🏈 HOW TO READ THE ROCKETMAN NFL POWER RATINGS

0.0 = Average NFL Team

+4.0 = Approximately Four Points Better Than Average

-4.0 = Approximately Four Points Worse Than Average

The difference between two team ratings creates the starting point for our projected spread. Home-field advantage and major situational adjustments are then added separately.

Important: These ratings are a betting research tool. They are not automatic wagers and they do not replace Rocky Atkinson’s complete handicapping process.

Rocky’s premium NFL selections incorporate additional matchup, injury, situational, market and line-value analysis beyond the raw ratings.

2026 NFL Power Ratings Top 10

1. Los Angeles Rams – RPR +6.5

The Rams open as our No. 1 team.

Los Angeles combines elite quarterback play, high-level coaching and one of the league’s most intimidating defensive fronts.

Matthew Stafford enters the season following an MVP campaign, while Los Angeles has aggressively built a roster designed to contend for a championship now.

The Rams receive an RPR of +6.5 points above an average NFL team.

2. Seattle Seahawks – RPR +5.5

The defending Super Bowl champions begin one point behind Los Angeles.

Seattle’s defense remains the foundation of the team, and the Seahawks retain enough continuity to remain one of the NFC’s most complete clubs.

We are not automatically ranking the defending champion No. 1 simply because it won last season.

That’s exactly the kind of public-perception shortcut our model is designed to avoid.

3. Buffalo Bills – RPR +5.0

Josh Allen keeps Buffalo among the NFL’s elite teams.

Quarterback value carries enormous weight in NFL point spreads, and Allen gives Buffalo a weekly ceiling that very few teams can match.

4. Philadelphia Eagles – RPR +4.8

Philadelphia remains one of the most talented rosters in football.

The Eagles enter 2026 with enough strength on both lines of scrimmage to immediately rebound from an inconsistent finish to last season.

5. Baltimore Ravens – RPR +4.5

Lamar Jackson remains one of the league’s most valuable quarterbacks, while Baltimore added additional pass-rush help during the offseason.

If the offensive line settles quickly, Baltimore has enough upside to move higher.

6. New England Patriots – RPR +4.0

New England reached Super Bowl LX last season and retains one of the most important assets in football: an ascending franchise quarterback in Drake Maye.

We do downgrade New England slightly for offseason personnel losses and the possibility that last year’s favorable schedule inflated the overall record.

7. Cincinnati Bengals – RPR +3.8

Cincinnati is one of our most interesting teams entering Week 1.

Joe Burrow gives the Bengals elite offensive upside, and improvement on defense could make Cincinnati substantially better than last season’s record might suggest.

8. Denver Broncos – RPR +3.7

Denver won 14 games last season and owns one of football’s deepest rosters.

Our rating is lower than a pure 2025 win-loss ranking because we want to avoid paying too much for last season’s results.

That does not mean we are bearish on Denver.

It means the market already knows the Broncos are good.

9. Kansas City Chiefs – RPR +3.5

Patrick Mahomes is expected to return for Week 1 after his knee rehabilitation.

Mahomes alone creates a substantial quarterback floor, but Kansas City enters 2026 with enough secondary and receiving questions that we are not automatically restoring the Chiefs to elite status.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars – RPR +3.3

Jacksonville was one of the NFL’s most improved teams during the second half of last season.

Trevor Lawrence and Liam Coen give the Jaguars legitimate offensive upside, and the market has already recognized that improvement entering Week 1.

How the Rocketman NFL Power Rating Works

The purpose of our NFL power ratings is not simply to decide which team is better.

Sportsbooks already know which teams are good.

The objective is to convert team strength into a number that can be compared directly with the betting line.

1. Previous Performance

We begin with prior-season efficiency, scoring margin and quality of opposition.

Win-loss record matters, but it does not tell the complete story.

A 12-win team that consistently survived one-score games may not deserve the same rating as another 12-win team that consistently dominated opponents.

2. Quarterback Value

No position changes an NFL betting line more than quarterback.

Elite quarterbacks can be worth multiple points compared with replacement-level alternatives.

Quarterback health, development and scheme fit receive significant weight in our ratings.

3. Offensive and Defensive Strength

We evaluate the complete roster with particular attention to:

  • Offensive line
  • Pass protection
  • Pass rush
  • Secondary
  • Explosive-play ability
  • Run efficiency
  • Red-zone performance
  • Depth

4. Coaching and Continuity

A team changing its head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator or quarterback carries more uncertainty than a club returning the same system.

Continuity is not automatically positive, but it reduces projection uncertainty.

5. Market Calibration

The sportsbook market contains enormous information.

We do not ignore it.

We also do not blindly copy it.

The market helps us identify where our initial assumptions may be too aggressive, while our independent evaluation helps identify situations where public perception may be influencing the number.

How We Calculate an NFL Projected Point Spread

For most games, our opening formula is:

Home Team RPR – Road Team RPR + Home-Field Advantage = Projected Margin

For example:

Seattle currently has an RPR of +5.5.

New England has an RPR of +4.0.

The difference is 1.5 points.

Adding approximately two points for Seattle home-field advantage creates a projected line of:

Seattle -3.5

That is essentially identical to the current Week 1 sportsbook market.

Home-field advantage is not permanently fixed at exactly two points.

Travel, altitude, stadium environment, rest and situational factors can move the adjustment.

Neutral-site games receive no standard home-field adjustment.

NFL Week 1 Power Rating Projected Lines

Here is how the current NFL power ratings translate into projected Week 1 spreads.

Week 1 Matchup Market Spread RPR Fair Line Model Gap
Patriots at Seahawks Seattle -3.5 Seattle -3.5 0.0
49ers vs Rams – Melbourne Rams -3.5 Rams -4.2 Rams 0.7
Browns at Jaguars Jacksonville -7.5 Jacksonville -8.3 Jaguars 0.8
Buccaneers at Bengals Cincinnati -3.5 Cincinnati -5.5 Bengals 2.0
Falcons at Steelers Pittsburgh -3 Pittsburgh -4.3 Steelers 1.3
Bears at Panthers Chicago -2.5 Chicago -1.8 Panthers 0.7
Saints at Lions Detroit -7 Detroit -5.3 Saints 1.7
Ravens at Colts Baltimore -3.5 Baltimore -2.5 Colts 1.0
Bills at Texans Buffalo -1.5 Buffalo -1.2 Texans 0.3

Cowboys at Giants Dallas -2.5 Dallas -3.5 Cowboys 1.0
Broncos at Chiefs Kansas City -2.5 Kansas City -1.8 Broncos 0.7

Market spreads above were reviewed September 5, 2026 and will move before kickoff. The RPR fair line is a model projection, not an official wager.

Largest NFL Week 1 Power Rating Gaps

The largest differences between our opening model and the current market are:

  1. Cincinnati Bengals – approximately 2.0 points of model value
  2. Arizona Cardinals – approximately 1.8 points of model value at +10
  3. Philadelphia Eagles – approximately 1.8 points of model value
  4. New Orleans Saints – approximately 1.7 points of model value at +7
  5. Tennessee Titans – approximately 1.5 points of model value
  6. Las Vegas Raiders – approximately 1.5 points of model value

These are not automatic bets.

At the beginning of the season, we want a larger margin of safety before relying heavily on a model difference.

Our initial threshold for a potentially meaningful standalone power-rating signal will be approximately 2.5 points or greater.

At the moment, no Week 1 game clears that threshold based only on the raw ratings.

That is useful information.

A model should not be designed to manufacture wagers.

Week 1 Buy Low NFL Teams

Cincinnati Bengals

The market currently asks Cincinnati to lay only around 3.5 points at home against Tampa Bay.

Our RPR produces approximately Bengals -5.5.

Cincinnati’s improvement potential on defense combined with Joe Burrow’s offensive ceiling makes the Bengals one of our first Buy Low teams.

Tennessee Titans

Cam Ward enters Year 2 with a stronger offensive structure and additional receiving help.

The market currently prices Tennessee only around -1.5 at home against the Jets.

Our fair line is closer to Titans -3.

Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas is still a bottom-tier team in our overall ratings.

That does not mean the Raiders cannot offer matchup-specific value.

Against a Miami team we currently rank No. 32, Las Vegas grades closer to -5 rather than the market’s -3.5.

Week 1 Sell High NFL Teams

Los Angeles Chargers

We like the Chargers more than Arizona overall.

But the sportsbook is asking Los Angeles to lay approximately 10 points.

Our projected number is closer to Chargers -8.2.

That creates a classic distinction between:

Who is the better team?

and

Who is the better bet at this price?

Detroit Lions

Detroit is clearly stronger than New Orleans in our ratings.

Our fair spread is approximately Lions -5.3.

The current market is around -7.

If bettors continue pushing Detroit upward because of offensive reputation and home-field perception, New Orleans could become increasingly interesting from a contrarian standpoint.

2026 NFL Power Rating Tiers

Elite Teams

Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills

These are teams we currently price at five or more points better than an average NFL club on a neutral field.

Championship Contenders

Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots

These teams are close enough to the elite group that strong early-season performance could move them into the top tier quickly.

Strong Playoff Teams

Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys

Every team in this group has enough quarterback or roster strength to contend deep into the season.

Above-Average Teams

Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans

This may be the most important betting tier.

Several of these teams are talented enough to become elite, but uncertainty creates potentially greater differences between our number and the public market.

Average Teams

Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts

These teams begin close enough to league average that matchup and venue can dramatically affect their weekly value.

Below-Average Teams

New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons

Being rated below average does not mean these teams should automatically be faded.

Undervalued bad teams can be excellent bets when the market demands too much from their opponents.

Bottom-Tier / Rebuilding Teams

Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins

These teams begin at the bottom of our rankings, but this group may provide some of our strongest contrarian opportunities if public bettors become too eager to fade them.

The Rocketman Buy Low / Sell High NFL Philosophy

One of the biggest mistakes bettors make with NFL power ratings is reacting too strongly to whatever happened last Sunday.

A team wins 38-10 and suddenly everyone wants to bet it.

A team loses 31-7 and suddenly nobody wants it.

The sportsbook knows that.

The point spread adjusts.

Sometimes it adjusts too far.

Rocketman Sports has always emphasized looking beyond public perception.

We want to identify situations where bettors may be paying a premium for what they most recently watched.

That means:

  • Buy teams after misleading losses.
  • Sell teams after misleading blowout wins.
  • Avoid overreacting to turnovers.
  • Avoid overreacting to one-game offensive explosions.
  • Separate final score from actual game performance.
  • Watch how far the betting line moves before following the crowd.

How Much Will NFL Power Ratings Move Each Week?

Early in the season, new information matters.

But one result should not completely rewrite our opinion of an NFL team.

A typical weekly adjustment may be approximately:

  • 0.0 to 0.5 points: Normal result that confirms expectations
  • 0.5 to 1.0 points: Meaningful performance or new information
  • 1.0 to 2.0 points: Major reassessment, important injury or substantial quarterback development
  • 2+ points: Usually reserved for major quarterback changes or extraordinary new information

This prevents the ratings from simply chasing last week’s scoreboard.

Tracking the NFL Power Ratings Model

Beginning with Week 1, Rocketman Sports will track the model rather than simply publishing rankings without accountability.

We plan to track:

  • RPR projected spread
  • Opening sportsbook spread
  • Closing sportsbook spread
  • Model gap
  • Closing-line value
  • Final score
  • ATS result
  • Results when the RPR gap is 2+ points
  • Results when the RPR gap is 2.5+ points
  • Results when the RPR gap is 3+ points

This will eventually allow us to determine which levels of model disagreement have actually produced value.

Until we have a meaningful 2026 sample, we will not claim that the model alone has a proven profitable edge.

Why NFL Power Ratings Are Not Official Picks

A mathematical rating cannot see everything.

Before an official wager, additional factors must be considered:

  • Quarterback availability
  • Offensive-line injuries
  • Weather
  • Travel
  • Rest
  • Coaching matchup
  • Public betting
  • Sharp-market movement
  • Key-number value
  • Matchup-specific strengths and weaknesses

A team may show two points of theoretical model value and still be a pass.

Likewise, Rocky’s deeper handicapping process may uncover an opportunity that is not obvious from the raw RPR number.

NFL Power Ratings FAQ

What are NFL power ratings?

NFL power ratings assign numerical values to each team based on estimated strength. The difference between two ratings can be used to create a projected point spread before adjusting for home field and other situational factors.

Who is No. 1 in the 2026 NFL power ratings?

The Los Angeles Rams open the Rocketman Sports 2026 ratings at No. 1 with an RPR of +6.5.

Who is the lowest-rated NFL team?

Miami begins Week 1 at No. 32 with an RPR of -5.0 following a substantial offseason roster teardown.

How much is NFL home-field advantage worth?

Our opening baseline is approximately two points, but individual stadium, travel, rest, altitude and matchup factors can move that value higher or lower.

How do you calculate a projected NFL spread?

We subtract the two team ratings, add the appropriate home-field or neutral-site adjustment and then consider major injuries and situational factors.

Are NFL power rating differences automatic bets?

No. The ratings are a research tool. A projected line difference must still be evaluated against injuries, matchups, market movement, betting percentages and the actual price available.

What model gap is considered significant?

During the opening weeks of 2026, we will pay particular attention to differences of approximately 2.5 points or greater. We will track multiple thresholds to determine which have historically produced the strongest results.

How often are the NFL power ratings updated?

Rocketman Sports plans to update the ratings every week throughout the NFL regular season and playoffs, with additional adjustments when major quarterback or injury news changes a team’s underlying strength.

What is Buy Low and Sell High in NFL betting?

Buy Low means looking for teams whose market value may have fallen too far after poor results. Sell High means looking for teams whose price may have become inflated after impressive or heavily publicized performances.

Are the power ratings the same as Rocky’s premium picks?

No. The ratings are public research. Rocky’s premium NFL selections use a deeper handicapping process and are released separately.

Final 2026 NFL Power Ratings – Week 1

The opening Rocketman Sports NFL power ratings have Los Angeles Rams, Seattle and Buffalo forming the elite tier entering Week 1.

Philadelphia, Baltimore and New England follow closely behind.

The most important part of this page, however, is not simply which team ranks No. 1.

It is the relationship between our numerical rating and the sportsbook point spread.

That is what will allow us to identify potential market overreaction throughout the 2026 season.

Our current Week 1 raw model gaps are largest on Cincinnati, Arizona, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Tennessee and Las Vegas.

None currently exceeds our initial 2.5-point standalone signal threshold.

That can change as the market moves.

We will update this page weekly and track the model against actual closing lines and ATS results so bettors can evaluate the ratings with real data rather than claims.
