NASCAR – Darlington XFinity Shoutout to Chase Briscoe on his win! I know how you feel sir!

What an amazing finish last night as Chase Briscoe edged out Kyle Busch for the win.  They were banging each other, banging the wall on the final couple laps.   I don’t follow Xfinity like I do Cup, so I wasn’t sure why Chase Briscoe after the race was kneeling by his car crying. I’ve seen drivers crying before after they win a big race but this felt different.   I text Andy Lang and asked if he knew and of course he did as he is extremely knowledgeable about the sport.  He told me that Chase and his wife just lost their unborn child.  So I replied with, I know how he (Chase) feels.  Andy came back with “You know how he feels?”  So i told him and here it goes.

My wife and I lost our first baby 16-17 years ago.  Many people don’t understand the sadness that comes from that.  People think, how can they be so hurt, they didn’t even see the baby.  We were excited, it was our first baby.  We told our family and our friends who were excited for us.  We had already started picking out names and we had already started decorating the baby room with what we could not knowing if it was a boy or a girl yet.  If it was a boy his name was going to be Gage.   I’ll never forget that day going into that doctor’s office and doing the ultrasound.  I could tell the ultrasound technician didn’t want to discuss much with us.  We were then sent to the doctor’s office, his actual desk, and sit in front of him as he explained that our baby was not developing.  It wasn’t that he or she was going to have something wrong when it was born, it simply wasn’t going to develop any further than it was.  So we really didn’t  have a choice as to what to do.  It was tough.  So I know how Chase Briscoe and his wife feels and I know that win last night, if only for a moment, helped him get through this tough, tough situation he’s going through.     I will be praying for you Chase and Marissa!

I’m happy to report that my wife and I have two healthy boys, ages 15 and 12.  So Chase, don’t give up buddy.  We worried that we were not going to be able to have kids after what happened with our first one, but we did, and you can too!
