Last Updated: September 1, 2026

Colorado and Georgia Tech meet Thursday night in one of the most interesting games of college football’s opening week. Georgia Tech beat Colorado 27-20 last season and finished with the far better overall record, which makes the Yellow Jackets an easy team for recreational bettors to back in the rematch.

But our Colorado vs Georgia Tech prediction is based on what these teams are now — not simply what happened last season.

Colorado vs Georgia Tech Odds

Colorado +6.5 to +7 Around +200 to +215
Georgia Tech -6.5 to -7 Around -240 to -260

Over/Under: Approximately 51 to 51.5

Don’t Make the Mistake of Handicapping Last Year’s Teams

Georgia Tech won nine games in 2025.

Colorado won only three.

Georgia Tech also beat Colorado 27-20 in Boulder.

If handicapping were as simple as repeating last year’s results, Georgia Tech -7 would look obvious.

But college football rosters change dramatically, and this matchup has one enormous difference from last year: Haynes King is no longer Georgia Tech’s quarterback.

Georgia Tech Must Replace Haynes King

King was a major reason Georgia Tech beat Colorado last season.

He accounted for nearly 300 total yards and rushed for 156 yards in the victory.

Georgia Tech now turns to Indiana transfer Alberto Mendoza, who enters this matchup without the same starting experience.

That does not mean Mendoza cannot play well.

It means bettors laying a full touchdown are being asked to trust a new quarterback in his first major test.

Colorado Turns to Julian Lewis

Colorado has a young quarterback too, but Julian Lewis at least gained valuable playing experience last season.

The former highly rated recruit showed flashes in limited action and enters 2026 with considerably more responsibility.

Colorado also brings in a new offensive approach under Brennan Marion.

That matters because Georgia Tech has very little current film showing exactly how Colorado will deploy this personnel within the new system.

Early-season uncertainty can benefit an underdog.

Georgia Tech’s Running Game Is the Biggest Concern

The biggest reason to hesitate before betting Colorado is Georgia Tech’s rushing attack.

The Yellow Jackets ran for 320 yards against Colorado last season.

They also added Michigan transfer Justice Haynes, giving the offense another dangerous weapon.

Georgia Tech does not need Mendoza to throw 40 passes.

The Yellow Jackets can build the offense around the run, protect their new quarterback and force Colorado to prove it can stop them at the line of scrimmage.

If Georgia Tech again dominates the rushing statistics, Colorado +7 will be in serious trouble.

The Public Is Backing Georgia Tech

Approximately two-thirds of current spread tickets have been on Georgia Tech.

Again, that is understandable.

The public sees:

  • Georgia Tech won nine games last season.
  • Colorado won three.
  • Georgia Tech beat Colorado last year.
  • Georgia Tech is playing at home.

Those are four easy reasons to bet the Yellow Jackets.

But when the public narrative looks that obvious, I want to examine the other side before automatically joining it.

The Key Number Seven Matters

Getting Colorado +7 is significantly more attractive than +6.5.

Seven remains one of the most important margins in football.

If Georgia Tech wins by exactly one touchdown, +7 pushes while +6.5 loses.

That half-point is valuable.

I would actively shop for Colorado +7 rather than blindly accept +6.5.

Colorado vs Georgia Tech Total Prediction

I also lean under.

Georgia Tech has every incentive to rely on its running game and make life easier for a new starting quarterback.

That style burns clock and reduces possessions.

Colorado’s new offense may eventually be explosive, but Week 1 can involve timing issues, penalties and communication problems.

Last year’s meeting produced 47 combined points.

A similar game script could keep this matchup below 51.

Why Colorado +7 Offers Value

This is not a bet against Georgia Tech being a good football team.

It is a bet against the assumption that Georgia Tech’s 2025 performance automatically carries into 2026.

The Yellow Jackets are replacing the quarterback who was central to last year’s win.

Colorado’s roster and offense look different, and the Buffaloes enter with very low public expectations.

That is often where value begins.

Colorado vs Georgia Tech Prediction

I still make Georgia Tech the more likely straight-up winner.

But there is a large difference between winning and covering a full touchdown.

I expect Colorado to stay competitive deep into the fourth quarter.

Final Score Prediction: Georgia Tech 27, Colorado 23

Best Bet: Colorado +7

Playable To: Colorado +6.5

Secondary Bet: Under 51

UAB vs Illinois Prediction, Odds & College Football Betting Preview

Thursday, September 3, 2026 | 9:00 PM ET | Gies Memorial Stadium | Champaign, Illinois | Big Ten Network

Last Updated: September 1, 2026

Illinois opens the 2026 season Thursday night against UAB in Champaign. The Illini are favored by roughly four touchdowns, but the most interesting number in this matchup may not be the spread itself.

It is the percentage of bettors taking UAB.

Our UAB vs Illinois prediction examines the massive public support for the Blazers, Illinois’ quarterback advantage, the matchup in the trenches and whether this is a spot to go against the crowd.

🔥 UAB vs Illinois Quick Picks

Best Bet: Illinois -27.5 if available
Moneyline: Illinois
Total Lean: Under 56.5
First Half Lean: Illinois 1st Half
Projected Score: Illinois 38, UAB 14
Confidence: 8/10
Play-To Price: Illinois -28.5

UAB vs Illinois Odds

Team Spread Moneyline
UAB +27.5 to +28.5 Around +1800 or higher
Illinois -27.5 to -28.5 Heavy Favorite

Over/Under: Mid-50s depending on sportsbook

The Public Is Overwhelmingly Betting UAB

This is one of the most lopsided public betting games on Thursday’s board.

More than 90% of early spread tickets have been reported on UAB.

The reason is obvious.

Sports bettors look at +27.5 or +28.5 and think four touchdowns is simply too many points.

That is exactly the type of public perception we want to investigate.

Again, the goal is not to automatically bet Illinois because the public is on UAB.

The goal is to determine whether the public may be overvaluing the underdog because the number looks enormous.

Illinois Has the Quarterback Experience Advantage

Illinois enters the season with veteran quarterback Katin Houser.

Houser threw for approximately 3,300 yards last season at East Carolina while completing nearly 66% of his passes.

He also enters the season with extensive starting experience.

For a huge favorite, that experience matters.

Illinois does not need Houser to throw for 400 yards.

The Illini need him to avoid turnovers, convert manageable third downs and take advantage of the favorable field position their defense and special teams should provide.

UAB Quarterback Ryder Burton

UAB quarterback Ryder Burton gained valuable experience last season and provides the Blazers with some mobility at the position.

However, playing a Big Ten opponent on the road is a major step up.

UAB cannot afford repeated negative plays or turnovers.

If Illinois starts possessions on short fields, the Illini could create separation quickly.

UAB’s Season-Opening Record Will Attract Bettors

UAB has been extremely successful in season openers.

The Blazers enter this matchup having won 10 consecutive opening games.

That is an impressive trend.

But bettors must always understand the context behind a trend.

This is not a typical UAB opener against a lower-level opponent.

This is a true road game against a Big Ten roster with a massive advantage in depth.

The Trenches Favor Illinois

This is where Illinois should control the game.

The Illini have a significant size and depth advantage on the offensive and defensive lines.

If Illinois consistently wins first down, Houser will rarely be put in obvious passing situations.

Defensively, the Illini should be capable of forcing UAB into long-yardage situations where their pass rush can become much more effective.

That can create the turnovers and short fields necessary to cover a huge number.

Why This Is a Go-Against-the-Public Spot

Almost everybody wants the four touchdowns with UAB.

That does not automatically mean Illinois is the right play.

But this is the type of matchup where the public can become overly focused on the size of the number rather than the matchup itself.

The question should not be:

“Is 28 points a lot?”

Of course it is.

The better question is:

“Does UAB have enough offensive consistency and depth to remain within four touchdowns for 60 minutes?”

I am not convinced they do.

Illinois First Half May Be the Cleaner Bet

Large favorites always carry fourth-quarter risk.

If Illinois leads by 31 points late, starters may be removed and the Illini may have no interest in scoring again.

That can create a backdoor cover.

The first-half spread avoids some of that danger.

If Illinois’ line-of-scrimmage advantage shows immediately, the Illini should be capable of building a multiple-score halftime lead.

UAB vs Illinois Total Prediction

I lean under the mid-50s.

Illinois does not need to play at an extremely fast tempo to dominate this matchup.

If the Illini build a comfortable second-half lead, expect more rushing attempts and a willingness to run the clock.

The under also benefits if UAB struggles to score more than 10 to 14 points.

Why We Like Illinois

Illinois has the better quarterback situation, home field, superior roster depth and the edge at the line of scrimmage.

Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of bettors are taking UAB primarily because of the huge point spread.

This is the kind of public-perception matchup I want to attack carefully.

The best number is important.

I prefer Illinois -27.5 if available. I would still consider the Illini at -28 to -28.5, but I would not want to chase the spread much higher.

UAB vs Illinois Prediction

UAB’s season-opening history deserves respect, but this is an entirely different challenge.

Illinois should control the line of scrimmage and force the Blazers to play from behind.

Once that happens, the talent gap becomes increasingly difficult to hide.

Final Score Prediction: Illinois 38, UAB 14

Best Bet: Illinois -27.5 if available

Playable To: Illinois -28.5

Secondary Bet: Under 56.5
