2026 Rocketman College Football Power Ratings

The Rocketman College Football Power Ratings are designed to estimate the underlying strength of each team rather than simply ranking teams by wins, losses or national polls.

Our model evaluates team performance using multiple statistical components and opponent-adjusted information. As the season progresses, current-season information becomes increasingly important while older information becomes less influential.

IMPORTANT: Power Ratings are only ONE ingredient in the Rocketman winning recipe. Rocketman’s official sports picks go much deeper than Power Ratings alone. The complete handicapping process can include matchups, injuries, personnel, coaching, motivation, scheduling, travel, rest, weather, line movement, market conditions and other game-specific factors.

How the Rocketman Power Rating Works

The Rocketman Power Rating — or RPR — is our numerical foundation for evaluating college football teams. It is not designed to copy the AP Poll, Coaches Poll or sportsbook rankings.

The model considers underlying team strength, opponent-adjusted performance, offensive and defensive efficiency, strength of schedule, recent performance, home and road factors and other measurable information.

Most importantly, Rocketman Sports is interested in situations where football fundamentals and market perception do not agree.

Rocketman Fair Line

A team Power Rating becomes even more useful when two teams play each other.

The Rocketman model converts the difference between the teams into a projected point spread called the Rocketman Fair Line.

For example, if the betting market makes a team a 4-point favorite while the Rocketman model makes that same team a 7-point favorite, the model identifies a 3-point difference between our projected number and the market.

That difference does not automatically make the team an official Rocketman play. Instead, it tells us that the matchup deserves a deeper look.

What Is the Rocketman Contrarian Score?

One of the central ideas behind the Rocketman model is that bettors and markets can sometimes overreact to what they just saw.

A dominant win can make a team look unbeatable. An ugly loss can make bettors want nothing to do with a team the following week. Previous-season records, rankings and reputation can also influence perception, particularly early in a new season.

Rocketman Sports looks for situations where that perception may have moved farther than the team’s underlying football strength justifies.

Rocketman Buy Low

A Buy Low candidate can occur when a team has recently produced a disappointing result, but the underlying Rocketman Power Rating still indicates that the team may be stronger than the current market price suggests.

Rocketman Sell High

A Sell High candidate can occur when a team has recently produced an impressive result, but the underlying Rocketman Power Rating suggests that the market may now be pricing the team too aggressively.

These are model-generated research signals. They are not automatically official Rocketman selections.

Why Previous-Game Results Matter

College football bettors naturally react to recent results. A 35-point win receives attention. So does an upset loss, a nationally televised collapse or a dominant performance against a highly ranked opponent.

But the final score does not always tell the complete story.

The Rocketman approach is designed to ask a different question:

Did the team’s true strength change as much as the public perception of that team changed?

When the answer appears to be no — and the Rocketman Fair Line also disagrees with the market — the game can become a potential contrarian value candidate.

Rocketman Model Signal vs. Official Rocketman Pick

This distinction is extremely important.

Rocketman Model Signal: A mathematically generated indication based on the Power Rating, fair line and model criteria.

Official Rocketman Pick: A selection released only after the complete Rocketman handicapping process is applied.

Power Ratings are one ingredient. The official Rocketman pick is the entire winning recipe.

College Football Power Ratings FAQ

What is a college football Power Rating?

A Power Rating is a numerical estimate of team strength. Unlike national polls, a betting-oriented Power Rating can be used to compare two teams and estimate what the point spread might be on a neutral field or after applying home-field adjustments.

What is the Rocketman Fair Line?

The Rocketman Fair Line is the point spread generated by the Rocketman model before comparing that number with the available betting market.

Does a difference between the Rocketman line and the sportsbook line mean I should bet the game?

No. A model discrepancy simply identifies a matchup that may deserve additional handicapping. It should not be interpreted as an automatic wager or an official Rocketman selection.

What does Buy Low mean in college football betting?

Buy Low describes a situation where recent results or perception may have pushed a team’s market value downward more than its underlying football strength warrants.

What does Sell High mean?

Sell High describes a situation where recent success or positive perception may have pushed a team’s market value higher than its underlying football strength warrants.

How often are the Rocketman College Football Power Ratings updated?

The ratings and prediction information are designed to be updated throughout the college football season as new game results and relevant information become available.
