Betting NFL Football – The Game Plans

For serious football bettors who like betting NFL football, here is breakdown of what to look for from key contests for Week 10 and what these teams will be attempting to accomplish to win the contest.

(215) CINCINNATI at (216) BALTIMORE FOX

SUNDAY NOV. 10 / 1:00 E

Bengals Game Plan: Cincinnati has to come out with more fervor from the start, not like they did last week at Miami in the OT loss. Expect the Bengals to be conservative on the ground on first and second downs early in the contest before finding favorable passing matchups on third on the presumption they have success. On defense, Cincinnati has to tighten up on run defense, especially up in the middle with the absences of Geno Atkins and Roy Maualuga. They allowed 157 yards against Miami last week, which was the second-most rushing yards they’ve allowed this season. Baltimore is 29th in running the ball and the Cincy defense needs to keep them closer to their average of 71.6 YPG.

Ravens Game Plan: With three consecutive losses, the Ravens are reeling. The Baltimore defense will have their hands full dealing BenJarvus Green-Ellis and rookie Giovani Bernard, who have formulated nice inside-outside running game. Quarterback Andy Dalton was not at his best last week, but he always knows where to find wide receiver A.J. Green. The Baltimore defense has a great deal to worry about. Somewhere, the Ravens need to find a running game, because Joe Flacco is just an ordinary ‘Joe’ without one. The most striking aspect of watching Baltimore is the lack of passion and is playing very much like a team with a Super Bowl hangover.

Key sports betting number: Baltimore is 12-5 and 10-6-1 ATS hosting Cincinnati of late.

(217) DETROIT at (218) CHICAGO  FOX

SUNDAY NOV. 10 / 1:00 E

Lions Game Plan: Regardless of who plays quarterback for Chicago, the Detroit defensive front will have to find a way to apply pressure on the quarterback. Defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley controlled the first meeting in Week 4 by dominating the interior of the Bears’ offensive line. Without pressure, the Bears pass catchers can have a field day against the Lions 26th rated pass defense. Offensively, the Lions have to exploit the Bears’ poor run defense (29th) with Reggie Bush. Playing without linebacker Lance Briggs, the Bears have been vulnerable to the run. If the Lions can establish the run, it will open the field for Matthew Stafford to find Calvin Johnson and others for big plays.

Bears Game Plan: While they have struggled against the run all season, stopping Detroit versus the rush could get Chicago halfway to a victory. Here is how it works, in the Lions five wins (4-1 ATS); they have rushed for an average of 119 yards a game. In Detroit’s three losses, they rushed for an average of 63.3 yards and failed to cover each time. On offense the Bears have to take advantage of the Lions wide-9 defense, something they didn’t do in the first game. This means a steady use of Matt Forte behind an improving offensive line and using him more in the passing game. The Chicago pass catchers are massive and just need a little space to catch the ball against Lions secondary which can be had.

Key sports betting number: Detroit is 0-6 ATS when the total is 49.5 or higher since last season.

(219) CAROLINA at (220) SAN FRANCISCO  FOX

SUNDAY NOV. 10 / 4:05 E

Panthers Game Plan: Carolina began the season 0-2 and in each case it was against a mobile quarterback. Seattle’s Russell Wilson and Buffalo’s EJ Manuel were each able to keep pass plays alive in wins over the Panthers they could have their hands full with elusive 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Keeping him in the pocket will be a requirement for the NFL’s No. 3 defense. There has been a lot of talk about Cam Newton growing up as a leader and head coach Ron Rivera willing to take more risks. In each case, both will be important in attempting to break down San Francisco’s sixth ranked defense. Here is an oddity; The Panthers are 6-1 ATS at Frisco.

49ers Game Plan: What has allowed San Francisco to win and cover five games in a row, their re-dedication to running the ball. This is who Jim Harbaugh is and this is the type of players he has and it was good enough to take them to a Super Bowl last season. While Carolina will present challenges on defense, this is the identity of this team and they should do what they do best and add a few wrinkles. Defensively, rattle Newton by bringing the heat, because he’s been able to be in a comfort zone, force him to make plays out of his normal realm.

Key sports betting number: San Francisco is 14-5 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points the last three seasons.

(223) DENVER at (224) SAN DIEGO  CBS

SUNDAY, NOV. 10 / 4:25 E

Broncos Game Plan: Just because Jack Del Rio is the interim coach, do not expect many changes. Denver will still attempt to play at a faster tempo with Peyton Manning, sharing the pigskin where available receivers are open. San Diego is just 29th in total defense and quite beatable. What the Broncos defense will be out to do is force the Chargers into more third and long’s because this offense has thrived in holding the ball and gathering yards in small bits. The Broncos are confident they can rush Rivers off the edge and generate errant throws.

Chargers Game Plan: Denver has committed 10 turnovers in their past the outings, making this priority one for the San Diego defense. If they can have the Broncos make miscues and take advantage of them by scoring touchdowns, it helps the defense immensely. The most tried and true way to defeat any team Manning has played for is running the ball and taking time off the clock. This has not been a strength of the Chargers, but an acceptable running game, coupled with their new approach of the short passing game, could pat dividends for this home underdog.

Key sports betting number: Denver is 4-15 ATS after scoring 30 points or more in three straight games.

(225) DALLAS at (226) NEW ORLEANS  NBC

SUNDAY, NOV. 10 / 8:30 E

Cowboys Game Plan: Dallas would probably love to do what the Jets did last week and run the ball right at New Orleans and control the clock. One problem, the Cowboys running game is completely unreliable as noted by their No. 27 ranking. Instead, coach Jason Garrett will be aggressive behind quarterback Tony Romo and receivers Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams. The Dallas defense can only hope to slow Saints Drew Brees and possibly create turnovers to give them an edge.
Saints Game Plan: New Orleans might be very tempted to heave the ball all over the field against the Cowboys 31st rated pass defense, which is allowing 305.2 yards per game. But a wiser option might be to establish the run, because even if it just helps set up second and third down and short, this gives Brees his full complement of options to attack Dallas. Defensively, the Saints have to make the Dallas one-dimensional and apply pressure to Romo to try and slow down the league’s ninth-ranked passing game.

Key sports betting number: New Orleans is 17-4 ATS at home the past three seasons.
