RB Leipzig produced one of the most impressive performances of Bundesliga Matchday 1.
Leipzig opened with a convincing 3-0 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The club generated significant attacking pressure and enters Matchday 2 with considerably more momentum than Werder Bremen.
Werder was beaten 4-1 by Freiburg in its opener.
That defensive performance is particularly concerning against a Leipzig attack capable of generating chances in waves.
Leipzig is also expected to have Christopher Nkunku heavily involved after his return to the club.
The key for us is the price.
Instead of laying -200 or more with one of the large home favorites, Leipzig can be found around -130.
That makes the risk-to-reward profile considerably more attractive.
Our projected final:
Werder Bremen 1, RB Leipzig 3.

Stuttgart vs Cologne Prediction
Pick: Over 3.5 Goals
Target Price: 1.96 (-104) or Better
Projected Score: Stuttgart 3, Cologne 1
Stuttgart enters this matchup after an ugly opening performance against Bayern Munich.
The club conceded five goals in a 5-1 defeat.
Cologne’s first match was almost the exact opposite emotionally.
Cologne rallied to defeat Hoffenheim 3-2.
That gives us two clubs whose opening matches produced a combined 11 goals.
Stuttgart remains a significant home favorite, but paying approximately -200 or worse after conceding five goals is not especially attractive.
We would rather attack the total.
Current pricing around even money on Over 3.5 gives us a better risk-to-reward opportunity.
Our projected score:
Stuttgart 3, Cologne 1.

Hoffenheim vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction
Pick: Borussia Dortmund Moneyline
Target Price: 2.23 (+123) or Better
Projected Score: Dortmund 2, Hoffenheim 1
Getting Borussia Dortmund at plus money immediately deserves attention.
Dortmund opened the Bundesliga season with a 2-0 victory against Hamburg.
Hoffenheim scored twice against Cologne but still lost 3-2 after surrendering its advantage late.
Dortmund does enter with defensive personnel concerns.
That prevents us from treating this as an easy road wager.
However, Dortmund has more attacking depth and the stronger overall squad.
The market is giving us approximately +115 to +123 rather than requiring bettors to lay a favorite price.
That makes the road side attractive.
Our projected final:
Hoffenheim 1, Borussia Dortmund 2.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Union Berlin Prediction
Position: PASS on Leverkusen at the Current Price
Longshot Lean: Union Berlin +550 or Better
Projected Score: Leverkusen 2, Union Berlin 1
This match provides an important example of the difference between predicting a winner and identifying a good wager.
We believe Bayer Leverkusen is more likely to win.
But Leverkusen is priced between roughly -220 and -270 despite losing its opening match 3-2 against promoted Elversberg.
Union Berlin scored three times in a 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
That means Union has already demonstrated enough attacking ability to punish another poor Leverkusen defensive performance.
We are not recommending a large wager on Union.
But at approximately +550, the underdog is more interesting than laying -250 with a favorite that just conceded three goals.
Rocketman Position: PASS on Leverkusen. Union +550 or better is a small-stakes longshot lean only.
Mönchengladbach vs Elversberg Prediction
Pick: Draw
Target Price: 4.00 (+300) or Better
Projected Score: 1-1
This is one of the strongest public-perception games on the Bundesliga board.
Mönchengladbach is the established Bundesliga name.
Elversberg is the promoted outsider.
Yet the opening results tell a very different story.
Gladbach was beaten 3-0 by RB Leipzig.
Elversberg stunned Bayer Leverkusen 3-2.
The sportsbook still makes Gladbach the favorite.
That price appears to be relying heavily on club reputation.
Rather than requiring Elversberg to win again, we prefer the draw at approximately +300.
Our projected final:
Mönchengladbach 1, Elversberg 1.

Paderborn vs Freiburg Prediction
Pick: Freiburg Moneyline
Target Price: 2.02 (+102) or Better
Projected Score: Freiburg 2, Paderborn 0
Freiburg may offer one of the cleanest plus-money opportunities of Matchday 2.
The club opened its campaign with a 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen.
Yuito Suzuki scored three times in that match.
Paderborn earned a respectable 0-0 draw at Mainz in its return to the Bundesliga.
The promoted club deserves credit for its defensive performance.
But Freiburg’s attacking quality is considerably greater than what Paderborn faced in the opener.
The fact that Freiburg can still be found around even money makes this especially attractive.
Our projected score:
Paderborn 0, Freiburg 2.

Schalke vs Bayern Munich Prediction
Pick: Over 3.5 Goals
Target Price: 1.60 (-167) or Better
Projected Score: Bayern Munich 4, Schalke 0
Bayern Munich is one of the largest favorites anywhere in European football this weekend.
The moneyline ranges from approximately -625 to -800.
We have no interest in risking that much money simply for Bayern to win.
Instead, we prefer the total.
Bayern opened the Bundesliga season by defeating Stuttgart 5-1.
The champions then scored four more goals in their DFB-Pokal match during the week.
Schalke returned to the Bundesliga with a 3-0 defeat against Augsburg.
Its goalkeeper was forced into numerous saves simply to keep the score from becoming even larger.
Bayern may be capable of producing the four goals necessary to clear this total almost by itself.
Our projected final:
Schalke 0, Bayern Munich 4.
Rocketman Pick: Over 3.5 at 1.60 (-167) or better.
Hamburg vs Mainz Prediction
Pick: Under 2.5 Goals
Target Price: 2.17 (+117) or Better
Projected Score: 1-1
Hamburg and Mainz both enter Matchday 2 searching for their first Bundesliga goal of the season.
Hamburg lost 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund.
Mainz played a 0-0 draw against Paderborn.
That means neither club scored during the opening round.
Despite that, bettors can still find plus money on Under 2.5.
That is the important part of this wager.
We do not need an extremely defensive 0-0 result.
A 1-0, 0-1 or 1-1 final all cashes the Under.
Our projection:
Hamburg 1, Mainz 1.

Younes Ebnoutalib scored a hat trick.
Augsburg was also impressive, defeating Schalke 3-0.
That makes this one of the most competitive games on the board.
The market prices Frankfurt close to even money despite playing at home.
That is enough for us to take the stronger attacking home side.

Eintracht Frankfurt 2, Augsburg 1.

Freiburg scored four goals in its opener and can still be backed around even money against a promoted opponent.
Best Bundesliga Road Underdog
Borussia Dortmund +123 or better at Hoffenheim.
Getting one of Germany’s strongest clubs at plus money makes Dortmund one of Matchday 2’s most interesting 1X2 wagers.
Best Bundesliga Draw Bet
Mönchengladbach-Elversberg Draw +300 or better.
The market continues to favor Gladbach’s reputation even after Elversberg beat Leverkusen in its Bundesliga opener.

Hamburg-Mainz Under 2.5 +117 or better.

Why Bundesliga Betting Is Different
The Bundesliga frequently produces more open football than many other major European leagues.
That makes goal markets especially important.
But automatically betting every Over is a mistake.
The price still matters.
A heavily juiced Over can require too high a winning percentage to justify the risk.
At the same time, a low-scoring matchup such as Hamburg-Mainz can occasionally provide plus money on an Under because of the Bundesliga’s overall reputation for goals.
Betting Bayern Munich
Bayern will frequently be one of the largest favorites on the worldwide Soccer board.
The problem is that everybody already knows Bayern is good.
That information is incorporated into the odds.
Against Schalke, bettors may have to risk more than $600 simply to win $100 on the Bayern moneyline.
Rather than paying that enormous price, we prefer looking at alternative markets such as:
- Goal totals
- Asian Handicaps
- Team totals
- First-half markets
This week, Over 3.5 gives us a much better risk-to-reward profile than the standard Bayern moneyline.
Bundesliga 1X2 Betting
Traditional German football moneylines use the 1X2 format.
1 = Home Win
X = Draw
2 = Away Win
This is why draw betting can create much larger prices than traditional two-way American sports markets.
Bundesliga Asian Handicap Betting
Asian Handicap markets allow bettors to modify the traditional three-way result.
Common Bundesliga lines include:
- +0.25
- +0.5
- +0.75
- +1
- -0.25
- -0.5
- -0.75
- -1
- -1.5
These markets are particularly useful when a club such as Bayern is too expensive to bet on the normal 1X2 moneyline.
Betting Against Bundesliga Public Perception
Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen attract considerably more casual betting interest than many smaller German clubs.
That can create opportunities when market prices overreact to club reputation.
Mönchengladbach-Elversberg is one example this week.
Gladbach is the established Bundesliga club.
Elversberg is promoted.
