NFL Picks Today: Week 1 Best Bets & Predictions

Updated September 3, 2026

Looking for the best NFL picks today? Rocketman Sports breaks down the 2026 NFL Week 1 betting board with our early best bets, point spreads, totals, public betting information, line movement and projected final scores.

The NFL regular season begins Wednesday, September 9 with New England visiting defending Super Bowl champion Seattle, followed Thursday by San Francisco and the Los Angeles Rams in Australia before the full Sunday and Monday Week 1 schedule.

We are not interested in making a pick on every NFL game just to fill a page.

The goal is to identify the wagers where we believe the current number provides the best combination of matchup value, market information and betting opportunity.

This page will be updated as Week 1 approaches because NFL odds, injuries and betting percentages can change dramatically before kickoff.

NFL Picks Today – Week 1 Quick Picks

Game Rocketman Early Pick Projected Score
Patriots at Seahawks Patriots +3.5 Seahawks 23, Patriots 21
Bills at Texans Texans +1.5 Texans 24, Bills 23
Buccaneers at Bengals Bengals -3.5 Bengals 30, Buccaneers 24
Packers at Vikings Under 45.5 Vikings 23, Packers 20

These are early Week 1 positions. NFL lines can move significantly between now and kickoff. Always compare the current number with the number recommended here before wagering.

Best NFL Bet #1: Patriots +3.5 at Seahawks

Pick: New England Patriots +3.5
Lean: Under 44.5
Projected Score: Seahawks 23, Patriots 21

We are starting with the opening game because it gives us exactly the type of NFL betting situation we want to investigate.

Seattle is the defending Super Bowl champion and gets the Patriots at home in a rematch of Super Bowl LX.

The basic public narrative is easy to understand.

Seattle won the championship. Seattle is at home. Seattle only has to win by more than a field goal.

That makes the Seahawks an easy team for recreational bettors to click.

But one early sportsbook split tells a much more interesting story.

At Circa, Seattle has attracted approximately 73% of spread tickets, while New England has attracted only about 27%.

However, the money split has moved in the opposite direction.

Approximately 54% of the spread handle is on New England +3.5 despite the Patriots receiving far fewer individual wagers.

That does not automatically mean professional bettors are responsible for every dollar on New England.

It does tell us that the average wager on New England has been considerably larger than the average wager on Seattle at that sportsbook.

That is exactly the type of tickets-versus-money discrepancy we want to study.

New England also has the advantage of catching more than a field goal.

The difference between +3 and +3.5 is extremely important in the NFL because three remains one of football’s most important key numbers.

Our projection is Seattle 23, New England 21.

Seattle can win the game while New England still covers the spread.

Rocketman Sports NFL Pick: Patriots +3.5

Best NFL Bet #2: Texans +1.5 vs Bills

Pick: Houston Texans +1.5
Moneyline Lean: Houston
Projected Score: Texans 24, Bills 23

Buffalo-Houston may be one of the most interesting sharp-versus-public situations on the early Week 1 board.

Buffalo is currently a short road favorite.

That immediately gives recreational bettors an attractive proposition: take one of the AFC’s biggest-name teams and only lay approximately 1.5 points.

But early betting data shows a meaningful disagreement between the number of wagers and the money wagered.

Multiple current betting-split reports have shown slightly more tickets on Buffalo while substantially more money has landed on Houston.

One snapshot showed approximately 54% of spread tickets on Buffalo but around 70% of the spread money on Houston.

Another showed Buffalo with approximately 52% of tickets while Houston held about 65% of the money.

When separate sources produce the same general tickets-versus-handle pattern, we pay attention.

The Texans also do not need to win by margin.

At +1.5, Houston simply needs to win the game or lose by one point.

Because the spread is so small, bettors who agree strongly with Houston should also compare the Texans moneyline price with the point spread before wagering.

Our projected final is Houston 24, Buffalo 23.

Rocketman Sports NFL Pick: Texans +1.5

Best NFL Bet #3: Bengals -3.5 vs Buccaneers

Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -3.5
Projected Score: Bengals 30, Buccaneers 24

Not every good NFL wager has to be a contrarian underdog.

The objective is to find value, not automatically oppose every popular favorite.

Cincinnati is laying approximately 3.5 points at home against Tampa Bay.

The interesting part of the early market is that Cincinnati has attracted a much greater percentage of money than individual wagers in one widely reported sportsbook split.

The Bengals were drawing approximately 56% of spread bets but more than 80% of the spread money.

That tells us the support for Cincinnati is stronger when the wagers are measured by dollars rather than simply number of tickets.

There is another reason we like Cincinnati more than some other Week 1 favorites.

This spread is still short enough that the Bengals do not need a blowout.

Our projected score is Cincinnati 30, Tampa Bay 24.

That gives the Bengals a six-point victory and covers -3.5.

We would be considerably less interested if this number were pushed far beyond the current range, so bettors should monitor the line as kickoff approaches.

Rocketman Sports NFL Pick: Bengals -3.5

Best NFL Total: Packers vs Vikings Under 45.5

Pick: Under 45.5
Side Lean: Minnesota -1.5
Projected Score: Vikings 23, Packers 20

NFC North games often attract enormous betting attention, and Green Bay-Minnesota is one of the best games on the Week 1 afternoon schedule.

The market currently has Minnesota favored by approximately 1.5 points with a total around 45.5.

Rather than forcing a side in what the market considers almost a coin-flip matchup, we prefer the total.

Early Week 1 betting reports have shown exceptionally strong money on the Under in this matchup, with the Under among the most heavily backed totals on the board by handle.

That is worth noting because NFL bettors historically gravitate toward Overs.

Both teams also enter an opening-week divisional matchup where familiarity can matter.

Defenses generally know the opponent’s personnel, concepts and tendencies better than they would in a nonconference matchup.

Opening-week offenses can also take time to find their full rhythm after limited preseason work for starters.

Our projected score is Minnesota 23, Green Bay 20.

That produces 43 combined points and keeps the game below 45.5.

Rocketman Sports NFL Pick: Packers/Vikings Under 45.5

NFL Week 1 Public Betting & Sharp Money Watch

Public betting information is one of the tools we use to understand the market.

It is not a standalone betting system.

Knowing that 70% of bettors like one team does not automatically mean the other team is the correct wager.

What becomes more interesting is when ticket percentages, money percentages and line movement begin telling different stories.

Patriots vs Seahawks

Seattle has attracted the majority of early spread tickets at Circa, while New England has attracted the larger share of spread money.

That puts Patriots +3.5 squarely on our early sharp-versus-public watch list.

Bills vs Texans

This is another excellent example.

Buffalo has drawn slightly more tickets in multiple snapshots, but Houston has received a significantly larger percentage of the money.

That discrepancy supports our interest in Houston +1.5.

Chiefs vs Broncos

This Monday night game is another market we want to monitor closely.

Early sportsbook data has shown significant ticket interest on Denver despite Kansas City being the home favorite.

Because there are still several days before Monday night, we are not making this an official play yet.

We want to see how the spread and money distribution develop.

Cowboys vs Giants

Dallas-New York has produced highly unusual early betting splits across different sportsbooks.

Some books have reported substantial support for Dallas, while other aggregated reports have shown more individual tickets on New York but much larger money on Dallas.

Because the data varies significantly by sportsbook, this is a game we want to monitor rather than force into the official card today.

How We Use Public Betting Information

There are three numbers that matter:

  • Ticket percentage – how many individual bets are on each side.
  • Money percentage – how much actual money is being wagered on each side.
  • Line movement – what the sportsbook is doing with the point spread despite the betting action.

The most interesting situation can occur when the majority of bettors are on Team A while the majority of money is on Team B.

That may indicate that fewer but larger wagers are backing Team B.

We also watch for reverse line movement.

If 75% of spread tickets are laying -3 with a favorite but the favorite drops to -2.5, we want to understand why the sportsbook is moving toward the unpopular side.

Again, none of these signals guarantee a winner.

They help us identify games that deserve deeper handicapping attention.

Why Week 1 NFL Betting Can Create Value

The opening week creates a unique betting environment.

Every team enters 0-0.

There is no current regular-season statistical sample.

Bettors therefore rely heavily on what they remember from last season, preseason narratives, offseason headlines and team reputation.

That creates opportunities for overreaction.

A team that finished last season badly may immediately be undervalued.

A team that made a deep playoff run may automatically receive too much respect.

A famous quarterback can attract bets regardless of whether the number provides value.

And defending champions are almost always easy for the public to support.

That is why we approach Week 1 differently from Week 10.

The point spread itself tells us a great deal about what the market expects before current-season results begin influencing perception.

NFL Week 1 Games to Watch

There are several additional Week 1 games we will continue handicapping before kickoff.

49ers at Rams

The Rams are favored by approximately 3.5 points in the Thursday game in Australia.

Early action has been heavily tilted toward Los Angeles, particularly on the total.

Travel, preparation and late roster information make this a game we would rather continue monitoring than force into the card six days early.

Cowboys at Giants

The Sunday Night Football opener should be one of the most heavily bet games of Week 1.

Dallas is currently a short road favorite.

Because betting-split information differs substantially across books and the Giants have important personnel questions entering Week 1, we want more information before releasing an official side.

Broncos at Chiefs

Monday Night Football closes Week 1 with Kansas City favored by approximately a field goal at home.

Denver has attracted significant early bettor interest.

Because Monday night gives the market several extra days to develop, this could eventually become one of our more interesting public-fade or reverse-line-movement opportunities.

Our most interesting early market position is New England +3.5. Seattle has received heavy ticket support at one major sportsbook while New England has received the larger share of spread money.

Should I always fade the NFL betting public?

No. Betting against the public blindly is not a profitable strategy by itself. Public betting data becomes more useful when combined with money percentages, point-spread movement, injuries, matchup analysis and the actual price available.

When will this NFL picks page be updated?

This page will be updated throughout the NFL season as new games, odds, injury reports, public betting data and expert selections become available.

Final NFL Week 1 Picks

Our current early Week 1 positions are:

  • New England Patriots +3.5 at Seattle
  • Houston Texans +1.5 vs Buffalo
  • Cincinnati Bengals -3.5 vs Tampa Bay
  • Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings Under 45.5

These are early numbers.

That distinction matters.

New England +3.5 is more attractive than New England +2.5 because the half-point above the key number of three has significant value.

Houston +1.5 is different from Houston -1.

And an Under 45.5 ticket is stronger than taking Under after the market has already fallen several points.

Successful NFL betting requires handicapping both the teams and the price.
