138 FBS teams and 128 FCS teams, with separate rating scales and complete conference views.
College Football Power Ratings help bettors compare team strength before evaluating a matchup or an available point spread. This edition extends the full-precision October 11 baseline with all 59 completed FBS-versus-FBS games from October 12-17. The separate provisional FCS model is refitted using 354 completed FCS-versus-FCS games, including 54 newly completed games. All 138 FBS teams and all 128 FCS teams remain in the system.
Model continuity: The full-precision calculation audit from October 12 was recovered and reproduced before this update. Both rating formulas, complete team rosters and separate FBS/FCS scales are preserved. Historical neutral-site corrections remain in place. All qualifying games in the checked October 12-18 window are final; no additional Sunday fixtures appear on the checked dated schedules.
The current FBS model top five are Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame. These are model strength rankings, not AP poll positions or official betting selections. Rankings use unrounded values, so displayed ties can occupy different positions.
How These College Football Power Ratings Are Calculated
FBS continuity: Start with the full-precision October 11 ratings retained in the prior audit. Expected home margin equals home rating minus away rating, plus 2.5 points for home field; neutral venues receive zero home credit. For each game, the home adjustment is 0.06 times actual minus expected home margin, capped between -1.50 and +1.50. The visitor receives the opposite adjustment.
Games are processed in date order, with every game on a date using that date’s opening ratings. This edition includes 59 newly completed FBS-versus-FBS games. FBS-FCS games are excluded because the separate scales are not cross-calibrated. No sportsbook spread enters the update. Full precision is retained internally; displayed ratings use two decimals.
Provisional FCS: Fit all 354 qualifying season games together. Cap each observed home margin at +/-35, subtract 2.5 for a non-neutral venue, and solve the home-minus-away strength equations with ridge regularization of 2.0. Center strengths at zero, then add 80.0 for display. FBS and lower-division opponents are excluded.
Current team information: Oregon’s October 18 official recap reports a 17-14 win over Nebraska in its second game without injured starting quarterback Dante Moore. The score is included; no separate uncalibrated injury penalty is added. Check availability before applying any rating to a future game. The models reflect completed scores, not an independently fitted roster adjustment.
FBS Movers Since October 11

FBS Conference Rating Averages
Conference averages are the arithmetic mean of the current ratings for all included members. They describe the depth of a conference, including its lower-rated teams, rather than only its highest-ranked program.

Alphabetical FBS Team Finder
Choose any team to jump to its row in the complete board. This finder includes every FBS program in the retained system.
The complete 128-team provisional FCS board is recalculated through October 17 from 354 qualifying games. Counted games include only FCS-versus-FCS contests, not a team’s full schedule. Never subtract an FCS rating from an FBS rating to create a cross-division spread.
Use the Ratings With Current College Football Research
For an FBS-only comparison, subtract the visitor’s rating from the host’s rating and add the model’s 2.5-point home-field allowance. On a neutral field, use the rating difference alone. A positive result favors the host by that many points. This mechanical estimate does not automatically make a bet attractive: the market price, personnel and matchup can change the decision.
For another expert marketplace, review the current terms of the Winning Cappers registration offer. This is an affiliate link. No expert streak, package price or promotional credit is asserted on this ratings page without current verification.
College Football Power Ratings FAQ
Are these official selections?
No. These are analytical team ratings. Official selections and available packages are listed separately on the Premium Picks page.
Why can a winning team lose rating points?
The FBS model compares scoring margin with its pregame expectation. Winning by less than expected can reduce a team’s rating, while losing by less than expected can improve it.
Can FBS and FCS ratings be compared directly?
No. Each board uses a separate construction and scale. Cross-division games are excluded, and a combined point-spread calibration has not been established.
When should the page be updated?
After the weekend’s completed games have been collected and checked. In-progress games must not be entered as final. Any late correction to a score requires a recalculation from that date forward.
