All signs points to a high-scoring game between the Lions and Alouettes on Friday but I think the oddsmakers have gone a little too high with this total. It sounds like it will be 'all systems go' for Alouettes quarterback Davis Alexander despite injury concerns. The Lions do figure to offer a challenge as they enter this game red hot off five straight wins and having held an impressive eight straight opponents to 26 points or fewer. The Als are certainly known for their offensive prowess, but they can play some defense as well. With that being said, they'll be looking to bounce back as they had their seven-game winning streak snapped in a 44-28 loss in Winnipeg last week. While B.C. did produce 45 points in last week's victory, that came at the expense of an awful Redblacks team. Take the under (8*).

The lone possession they did not score the Trojans were held on downs inside the SJSU 5 yard line. They called the dogs off in the 2nd half and rather than lay the full game number here (-21.5) we’re more comfortable with USC coming to play early before potentially resting guys in the 2nd half. We’re not sure Fresno has the offense to keep up in this one, especially early on. They will be starting Jayden Mandal at QB who has 9 career pass attempts and sat out all of last year with an injury. Huge QB advantage for USC where Maiava is back under center this season and completed 86% of his passes last week for almost 300 yards despite only playing 3 quarters. The Bulldogs ranked 95th last year in total offense and that was with better QB play than we expect this year. The Trojans are 13th nationally in returning production while FSU is 63rd. Lincoln Riley has no problem getting off to a fast start and running it up vs inferior opponents. Since taking over at USC in 2022, he has faced 8 non Power 4 teams in the regular season. The average halftime score in those games? 30-8 in favor of the Trojans. With this first half line sitting under 2 TD’s, we’ll grab USC.

Fresno State has an attractive combination of situational rest, coaching familiarity and sharp support.

A respected sharp handicapper released Fresno State +23.5 for 1.1 units. His projection still makes USC a substantial favorite, but the recommendation is that the market has gone too far.

The situational angle is noteworthy. Fresno State is fresh, whereas USC has already played San Jose State. Historically, Teams in first game versus opponent in second game under specific situations that apply in this game are 211-180-2.

USC's opener also provided evidence that the Trojans are not invulnerable to scoring from an inferior opponent. San Jose State produced 26 points. Fresno State does not need to win offensively; it needs enough production to prevent USC from creating a four-touchdown separation.

There is also coaching familiarity. Fresno State coach Matt Entz has prior familiarity with Lincoln Riley's system, giving the Bulldogs a preparation advantage that a typical large underdog may not possess.

The problem is the market. The sharp release was +23.5. If only +22.5 is available, we are already giving away a full point of value. If the game drops through +21, the recommendation becomes substantially less attractive.

Worldwide public sentiment has leaned toward USC, giving Fresno additional contrarian corroboration.
