A Look At The Rockies

The Colorado Rockies just had a nice four-game series against the Diamondbacks, inc which they too three games. They have now won nine of their last 12 games, but still, their lead in the division is just 2.0 games over the Dodgers. The Rockies have plenty of work still to do. They have a shot at a good series as the Giants have really been struggling of late, plus the Rockies have owned this series this year so far. They come in off a 10-3 win over the D-Backs and have now outscored their opponents by a count of 73-48 over their last 12 games. This is a team that is playing very well and at just the right time.

In their 10-3 win, they were led by Trevor Story, who had two hits, scored three runs and drove in two. On hit was his 33rd homer of the year. David Dahl also had a nice game with three hits and two RBIs, while Nolan Arenado crushed his 34th homer of the year. Kyle Freeland has been their ace this year and he had another solid outing. He allowed just three ERs on 4 hits and a walk while striking out six in 6.1 innings of work. Freeland is now at 15-7 with a 2.96 ERA on the year. They need him to continue to pitch well down the stretch. The Rockies have gone 40-32 on the road and they have averaged 4.32 rpg and have allowed 4.31 rpg in those games.

A Look At The Giants

The Giants have fallen apart down the stretch after being in the playoff race for much of the year. They come having lost their last 11 games in a row, which is a franchise record. Their offense has not been good all year and it has been even worse of late. They have averaged just 2.36 rpg over their last 11. They did score eight runs in one game over that stretch, but just 18 runs in their other 10 games. The Rockies have pitched very well on the road this year, so that number may not get a whole lot better. The pitching has struggled of late as they have allowed 4.88 rpg over their last nine games. The good news is that the Rockies are not a great offensive team on the road.

In their last game, they lost to the Braves by a score of 2-1. They had seven hits and drew seven walks in the game, but they grounded into 2 double plays and left 11 men on base. Evan Longoria drove in their lone run in the game. Derek Holland had a strong start as he allowed one ER on five hits and a walk while striking out seven in 6 innings of work, but was saddled with a no-decision. Absorbing the loss was Will Smith, who is now 2-3 with a 1.88 ERA on the year. The Giants have gone 39-33 here at home and they have averaged 4.17 rpg and have allowed 4.04 rpg in those games.
