Betting NFL Football – The Game Plans

For serious football bettors who like betting NFL football, here is breakdown of what to look for from key contests for Week 11 and what these teams will be attempting to accomplish to win the contest.

(409) WASHINGTON at (410) PHILADELPHIA FOX

SUNDAY NOV. 17 / 1:00 E

Redskins Game Plan: The Washington offense is producing at least 433 yards in four of the past five games and will look to attack Philadelphia with the pass, since they rank 31st in that department. Expect Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to have a pass heavy offense. The Washington pass defense is not much better (26th) and with how Nick Foles has been playing, the Skins have find answers with pressure in a hurry.

Eagles Game Plan: With Foles being on target with 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions the last two weeks, this has reopened the Philadelphia running game for LeSean McCoy in particular. Best guess here is McCoy will be a big part of the offense early, with the intent of throwing down the field once the second quarter arrives. Defensively, the Eagles’ top priority will be stopping Redskins running back Alfred Morris and hope the pass defense can hold up.
Key sports betting number: Philadelphia is 0-10 SU and ATS at home.

(413) BALTIMORE at (414) CHICAGO  FOX

SUNDAY NOV. 17 / 1:00 E

Ravens Game Plan: Baltimore will try to pressure Chicago backup quarterback Josh McCown, who gets the start with Jay Cutler sidelined. What they will have to watch for is McCown running up the middle if pass plays break down, as he’s been effective picking up yards. The Ravens likely will utilize bracket coverage on Brandon Marshall and make McCown look elsewhere. Something has to give, Baltimore is 30th in rushing and the Bears are 31st stopping the run. If the Birds can run with even a bit of success, this helps Joe Flacco throwing.

Bears Game Plan: Look for Chicago to attack Baltimore with the idea of moving McCown around and not be a stationary target to avoid the Ravens talented pass rushers. The short-to-middle passing attack is how the Bears need to attack Baltimore, and stretch plays or off-tackle runs are the best option because of their 3-4 alignment. McCown has been expertly getting rid of the ball. Chicago will be out to stop the run first and make the Ravens offense one dimensional. The Bears should blitz in obvious passing situations to keep Flacco from feeling content in the pocket.

Key sports betting number: Chicago is 2-9 ATS in games when the line is +3 to -3 the last two seasons.

(425) SAN FRANCISCO at (426) NEW ORLEANS  FOX

SUNDAY NOV. 17 / 4:25 E

49ers Game Plan: It is very easy to see Colin Kaepernick has lost confidence in throwing the ball down the field. Granted, the array of pass receivers are not the same as last year, but he’s struggled to find the next read after his initial one has been taken way. San Francisco should use their trio of running backs (Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James) and test the Saints run defense which allows 5.0 yards a carry. A really intriguing matchup between 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Saints coach Sean Payton. Fangio used to be on the Saints staff and will match wits all afternoon.

Saints Game Plan: New Orleans is averaging 35.2 PPG at the M-B Superdome, but has not faced a defense anywhere close to the Niners. Drew Brees will spend much of the first quarter probing to see what weaknesses they found in tape are there or what other aspects might work. No matter what, Darren Sproles will be a big part of the package. On defensive, the Saints will have to defend the read-option skills of Kaepernick, who has the ability to turn the corner on this 23rd-ranked run defense. With DC Robb Ryan, New Orleans will attempt to win first and second down and have a strong desire to make Kaepernick a passer on third and long.

Key sports betting number: New Orleans is 6-0 ATS at home off a home win by 10 points or more the last three seasons.

(421) KANSAS CITY at (422) DENVER  NBC

SUNDAY, NOV. 17 / 8:30 E

Chiefs Game Plan: Denver’s offense has scored 2.75 times more offensive touchdowns than Kansas City (44 vs. 16), thus it goes without saying the Chiefs are ill-equipped to get in a shootout with the Broncos and has to control the clock running the ball and scoring touchdowns in the red zone area. The Chiefs have not allowed an opponent more than 17 points this season, however, that is unlikely to continue in the Mile High City. How to curtail Denver is to take away the run and make a gimpy Peyton Manning uncomfortable in the pocket.

Broncos Game Plan: With Kansas City surrendering the fewest points in the NFL and having the most sacks, protecting Manning is priority No. 1 for the Broncos. While Manning is a gamer, he’s going to need time to throw and a place to plant his injured ankle when throwing. The offensive line generating a push and establishing the run makes everything Denver wants to do easier. More than anything on defense, the Broncos need their No. 4 run defense to be stout and make Alex Smith have to do his best Peyton imitation as the ball chucker, which is not what he does best.

Key sports betting number: Denver is 11-3 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points since last season.

(429) NEW ENGLAND at (430) CAROLINA  ESPN

MONDAY, NOV. 18 / 8:40 E

Patriots Game Plan: For the first time this season, New England should start this contest with its full complement of receivers (Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski) and possibly pass-catching back Shane Vereen. This would help Tom Brady immensely and frankly, the Patriots will need it going against the most complete defense in the league. Here is a huge key to this contest. New England is 25th in 3rd down conversion and Carolina defense is fifth against. If the Pats can get closer to 50 percent on third down conversions, they can win. The Patriots defensive mission will be to have Cam Newton stay in the pocket and contain the Panthers running game.
Panthers Game Plan: Carolina’s defensive front seven is probably the best in the NFL and they will help determine what kind of day Brady and the Patriots offense has. If they can harass Brady like the Jets did in New Jersey, the Panthers can stymie New England’s offense. If not and Brady has time to throw, the ‘Cats secondary is beatable. The Pats are 30th against the run, thus, Carolina will want to establish the line of scrimmage behind a very powerful run-blocking offensive line and a stellar contingent of backs. Cam Newton has to just play his game and not try and force the action. This should be fun.

Key sports betting number: Carolina is 14-4 ATS after playing their last game on the road the last three seasons.
