Mariners vs. Yankees Under 7.5  

The Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees meet in a makeup game on Monday. Felix Hernandez toes the rubber for the Mariners in this one, while it will be David Phelps for the Yankees.

The Yankees offense has been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this year. Their rotation has held it together quite well all things considered, and that’s the reason the Yankees are above .500.

Felix Hernandez has been great against most teams, but he has saved his absolute best for when he goes against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. He has a career ERA of 1.18 in Yankee Stadium. That is just lights out. No one in this Yankees lineup has had success against him in the past.

Seattle’s lineup might be without Robinson Cano again, who is struggling to recover from a recent injury. The Mariners offense really depends on Cano. Phelps has pitched well at home in the past couple years.

This should be a close game all the way, and I expect it to stay under the posted total. Take the under.

Seattle Mariners & Detroit Tigers under

The Seattle Mariners host the Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the third game of a three-game set.

The Tigers send out Max Scherzer for this one, and the team’s ace is coming off a couple pretty tough starts. He’ll be looking to bounce back in this one against a light-hitting Mariners team that seems likely to again be without its top hitter in Robinson Cano. Add in the fact that this game will take place in a pitcher-friendly park and a bounce back from Scherzer seems all but certain.

As for the Mariners, they will counter with young Roenis Elias. The southpaw has been a very pleasant surprise for the Mariners this year. The Tigers will get their first look at him in this one, and with Detroit having some trouble scoring runs away from home of late, it could be the rookie who comes away with the upper hand in this matchup.

The under is 10-3-1 in Scherzer’s last 14 road starts.

Oakland Athletics & Los Angeles Angels Over

The Oakland Athletics host the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday in the second game of a three-game set. The teams combined to put up a double-digit run total on Friday night, yet the oddsmakers still allow us to get in at a favorable number in this one, despite a rather ordinary pitching matchup.

Tyler Skaggs gets the nod for the Angels in this one. He’s been hit or miss all season, and could be in for a long day against a hard-hitting Athletics team. Oakland has been one of the best offensive teams in baseball, scoring the second-most runs in the majors this season.

The Athletics counter with Tom Milone. He’s had some decent starts of late, but he’s been lucky to face some struggling offenses. Now he gets an Angels team on the rise behind Mike Trout, who has been heating up of late.

The over is 7-2 in Skaggs’ last nine starts, and it is 5-1 in Milone’s last six home starts.

The over is 9-2-1 in the last 12 meetings between these teams in Oakland.

Chicago & Cleveland over

The Chicago White Sox host the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night in the third game of a three-game set.

Division opponents have a tendency to play over the number as pitchers simply run out of ways to fool opposing batters, and there shouldn’t be any batter getting fooled in this one with a pair of pitcher on the mound that simply don’t deserve to be in a starting role. T.J. House is a reliever, getting a spot start to help eat up some innings. He already has one start under his belt and it didn’t go well, giving up five runs in six innings of work.

As for Hector Noesi, it’s a head-scratcher as to why he continues getting the nod every fifth day. He’s 2-16 in his career as a starter, posting a 5.99 ERA in those appearances. The Indians sent Nick Swisher and Carlos Santana to the disabled list, but there is still plenty of talent in the lineup to light up this gas can.

The over is 13-3-2 in the Indian’s last 18 games overall.

Kansas City & Houston under

The Kansas City Royals host the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon in the third game of a three-game set.

The Astros send out Jarred Cosart for this matinee. Cosart had a 7.36 ERA in his first four starts this season, but has turned his year around with a 2.92 ERA in his last six starts. That second number is more in line with what we saw from the young Houston Astros starter a year ago, when he burst onto the scene with a 1.95 ERA in 10 2013 starts.

The Astros have particular trouble scoring runs on the road, which means the under is our play on Wednesday when Cosart opposes Danny Duffy and his 2.59 ERA. Duffy has quietly been very effective for the Royals, and should continue his success against a light-hitting Astros squad. Entering the series opener on Monday, the under was 4-1 in the last five meetings between the Astros and Royals.

The under is 4-1 in Duffy’s last five home starts, and it is 3-0-1 in Cosart’s last four road starts.

Toronto & Tampa Bay under

The Toronto Blue Jays host the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game set.

The Blue Jays send out Mark Buehrle for this game. The team’s bats get much of the credit for the team’s recent success, but the reality is the pitching staff has been carrying the team for the first few months of the season, no one more so than the veteran Buehrle. On the season, he’s compiled a 2.16 ERA and 1.22 WHIP as he has dazzled onlookers and opposition alike. A light-hitting Rays team that has been better against right-handed pitching this season could be in for a long night against Buehrle, who threw 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball against them in his first start of the season.

Looking further back, Buehrle has a 2.88 ERA in his last 16 home games, with the under going 10-4-2 in those contests. His counterpart in this one, Alex Cobb, will certainly do his part in contributing to the under. He’s compiled a 1.40 ERA and 0.86 WHIP on the season.

The under is 25-9-2 in Buehrle’s last 36 starts overall.

Arizona & San Diego under 8.5

The Arizona Diamondbacks will take on the San Diego Padres at Chase Field on Monday evening in the first game of a three-game set. The Diamondbacks are coming off a 4-2 loss against the Mets, while the Padres beat the Cubs on Sunday by a score of 4-3.

The Diamondbacks send out Brandon McCarthy for this start. He’s allowed only two earned runs over his last two starts, spanning 14 innings. The problem is, he’s getting very little in the way of run support. Looking back over his last eight starts, McCarthy has received a total of 14 runs of support. That’s an average of just 1.8 runs per game.

The Padres will counter McCarthy with Tyson Ross. Ross has been like clockwork of late. In his last four starts, Ross has thrown seven strong innings each time, allowing just one run each time. He’s handled the Diamondbacks well since joining the Padres. His ERA is below two against them in four starts, with the under going 3-0-1 in those contests.

The under is 13-3 in the Diamondbacks’ last 16 games overall, with the team playing under the number in seven consecutive contests, and the under is 16-6-1 in Ross’s last 23 starts overall.

Seattle & Houston under 6.5

The Seattle Mariners take on the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon. With Hisashi Iwakuma and Dallas Keuchel pitching for their respective teams, we strongly advise the under in this matchup.

Iwakuma and Keuchel may not be the brightest household names, but they're both absolute studs on the mound. Keuchel has emerged as one of the toughest left-handed starters in the league and that doesn't bode well for a Mariners lineup that struggles to create runs against lefties (wRC+ of 87 vs. LHP). Iwakuma is no slouch either as he's returned from the disabled list in fine form. The Mariners starter has a stellar 2.29 xFIP at home this season and an awesome 2.82 xFIP if you include last season's home numbers.

Safeco Field is where power goes to die as it has produced only 83.2% of the runs that an average ballpark has produced this season. That doesn't bode well for two teams that constantly struggle to produce runs. The Astros have one of the leagues worst offenses away from home, putting up an ugly wRC+ of just 73. The Mariners home numbers aren't much better with a wRC+ of 78.

The Mariners bullpen is in fine form with a 3.03 xFIP in the last 30 days, and although the Astros pen could use some improvement, we trust the Keuchel will pitch deep into the ball game here.

The under is 7-3-1 in the Astros last 11 road games and the under is 6-1 in Iwakuma's last 7 home starts with the total set at 6.5 or lower.

NY Mets & Arizona under 7.5

The New York Mets take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday afternoon. Neither of these teams boasts an above average offense and there are a lot of signs pointing to a low scoring affair here.

The Mets send Zack Wheeler to the mound. Wheeler's 4.53 ERA is not a good indicator of how he's pitched this season. Wheeler has suffered from some bad luck, as indicated by his 3.91 xFIP and his abnormally high .333 BABIP. The young right-hander is making his opponents miss with a solid 8.34 K/9 rate, but balls that are put in play are finding holes at a much higher rate than the MLB average.

Wheeler is in a good bounce back spot here, pitching at Citi Field, which yields .739 runs for every 1 run scored in an average Major League ballpark. Arizona has hit better as of late but they've struggled to produce away from home all season, with a terrible 80 wRC+.

The D'Backs give the ball to Josh Collmenter, who's nothing more than an average pitcher, but fortunately for Arizona, he'll be taking on a significantly below average lineup. The Mets offense is absolutely dreadful and to make matters worse, they're one of the worst teams in the league against right-handed pitching.

Both bullpens have also been solid as of late, so as we delve deep into this matchup, we just don't see too many runs being scored. 

The under is 7-0 in Arizona's last 7 games against a right-handed starter, and the under is 14-4-1 in the Mets last 19 games as a home favorite.

Rockies vs. Braves Over 7.5  

The Colorado Rockies have a lineup stacked full of guys who are hitting .300 or better. While they are certainly better at Coors Field, this is a team that is going to score runs anywhere they play. Colorado’s offense is very hard to quiet.

Atlanta’s offense has underperformed so far this year, but I expect them to be better moving forward. The Braves have too many talented guys to keep struggling so much at the plate. Jordan Lyles is off to a nice start this year for the Rockies, but he is showing signs of slipping of late.

Lyles  isn’t a bad pitcher, but he is probably a 4.00 ERA type of pitcher which is nothing better than mediocre. On a warm night in Atlanta the ball should be flying well and I expect him to give up a long ball or two here.

Gavin Floyd has been good since returning from the DL for the Braves, but this will be the best lineup he has faced. Colorado should get to him for a few runs in this one. Both bullpens have been worked hard of late as well.

Pittsburgh & Washington over 7.5

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Washington Nationals on Thursday in the opening game of a four-game set. Pittsburgh is coming off a 9-8 win over Baltimore, while Washington dropped its last game to Cincinnati, 2-1.

There are some misconceptions in this matchup that allow us to get in at a very fair number, as the oddsmakers and general public seem to expect a pitcher’s duel here. The reality is, both offenses have improved of late after slow starts to the year. The Nationals have scored 4.4 runs per game over their last seven contests, and the Pirates have been much better scoring runs in their home ballpark, averaging 5.2 runs per game over their last 11 home contests.

The pitching matchup does nothing to sway our confidence in the over. Blake Treinen’s 0.77 ERA hides the fact that he allowed three unearned runs in his lone start of the year, while Edinson Volquez’s 4.71 ERA comes mainly on the back of a hot start – he’s been a gas can of late.

The over is 8-2-1 in the Pirates’ last 11 home games, and 7-1-1 in the Nationals’ last nine games as a road underdog.

Oakland vs. Tampa Bay Under 7

Sonny Gray has been as consistent as anyone pitcher in baseball so far this year. Gray is good for a quality start every time out. Here he’ll be facing a Tampa Bay Rays lineup that just isn’t very good right now.

Ben Zobrist is probably the Rays second most consistent hitter behind Evan Longoria, and without Zobrist there is a clear gap in the middle of the Rays order. A pitcher like Gray will use that to his advantage. Gray is good at controlling his pitch count and working a bunch of innings, and even if he is forced to work hard, the A’s have a very good bullpen.

Tampa Bay’s Alex Cobb is an excellent starting pitcher, and I expect him to step right in from his injury and dominate right away. Oakland’s offense has put up some good numbers so far this year, but I’m not convinced that will continue the rest of the year. The A’s will likely be without Coco Crisp too, and that’s a big loss for them.

We have two high quality pitchers who will pound the strike zone here. The A’s won yesterday’s game with a single hit. This looks like a pitcher’s duel.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Over 9 

The Arizona Diamondbacks put up 18 runs in a shocking upset over Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. The Dodgers scored 7 runs in that one. For a team to score 7 runs in a game and still be totally blown out is definitely odd.

While there is no way we could expect that type of scoring once again, I do believe Sunday afternoon’s contest between these two will be a rather high scoring one once again. Both of these offenses have been seeing the ball very well of late, and there are reasons to believe that will continue.

Dan Haren and Josh Collmenter are both pitchers who can be very good, or they can be very bad. They are the type of pitchers who can give up a big inning at any time during the game, and I expect we’ll see at least one big inning from one of the teams here.

Chase Field is one of the best hitter’s ballparks in the majors. Los Angeles should come into this one ticked off, and the Diamondbacks have hit Haren well in the past. Plenty of runs coming again on Sunday.

Tigers vs. Red Sox Over 7.5 

The Boston Red Sox have had Max Scherzer’s number over the last few seasons. The Tigers are 0-4 in Scherzer’s last 4 starts in Boston. The Red Sox have a bunch of guys who seem to see the ball very well in their matchups against Scherzer.

Jon Lester pitches in this one for the Red Sox. The Red Sox are 4-1 in Lester’s last 5 against the Detroit Tigers. Lester is off to a tremendous start this year. Still, this is a Detroit team that absolutely smashes the baseball off left-handed pitchers. With guys like Cabrera, Martinez, Peralta, and Jackson, the Tigers are very tough for lefties to get out.

The total is set low here because both pitchers are quality pitchers, but both of these lineups are very capable of piling up the runs. The over is 7-1-2 in Scherzer’s last 10 starts vs. the Red Sox. The over is 14-6-2 in the last 22 meetings between these two teams overall.

Look for enough offense to get this one over a low posted total.

Seattle & Tampa Bay over 8

The Seattle Mariners host the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday afternoon in the third game of a three-game set.

The teams showed off the kind of offense they are capable of producing when they generated a combined 17 runs on Monday night. Now, they’ll face off again with a far inferior pitching matchup. Brandon Maurer quite frankly doesn’t even belong in a major league rotation. He’s been lousy as a starter in his career. He’s made 18 career starts, posting a 6.20 ERA.

The Rays counter with Jake Odorizzi, who hasn’t been any better. Odorizzi has a 5.79 ERA on the season. He’s been even worse when drawing the assignment on the road, compiling a 6.39 ERA and 1.68 WHIP when away from home. The only current Mariner to have faced him is Robinson Cano, and it didn’t take the second baseman long to figure Odorizzi out, hitting a double in his lone at-bat against him.

The over is 18-7-2 in the Rays’ last 27 games overall and 11-5-2 in the Mariners’ last 18 overall.

The over is 14-3-1 in the Rays’ last 18 games vs. a right-handed starter.

Indians vs. Rays Over 7.5

The Cleveland Indians offense had been in a season long slumber until very recently, but they have finally started scoring some runs. This offense was good last year, and I see no reason to assume they’ll be much worse this season. Their increased production should continue in the coming weeks.

Tampa Bay has been slumping of late, but it’s been largely about poor starts and bad bullpen outings than anything else. Jake Odorizzi has plenty of talent, but he hasn’t been sharp at all of late. He has been hit hard in three straight starts. He’s getting too much respect here.

Corey Kluber has been dominant at home, but he hasn’t pitched well on the road in his career. Tampa Bay’s offense has plenty of patient hitters who will make him work hard on the mound. Kluber needs to prove he can shut people down on the road before a total is set this low in his starts.

Two pitchers with some real questions and two offenses who appear to be ready to turn the corner. A total of 7.5 is too low for this situation.

Toronto & Philadelphia under 9

The Toronto Blue Jays host the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night in game four of a four-game set. The Blue Jays won game three in the series on Wednesday by a score of 10-0, and will be looking for a series sweep on Thursday.

The Blue Jays will send out R.A. Dickey to try and sweep the series. Dickey has some familiarity with the Phillies from his time with the Mets. In his tenure in New York, he posted a 2.90 ERA against Philadelphia. He's also been a far better pitcher at home this season, posting a 3.12 ERA and 1.12 WHIP at the Rogers Centre, compared with an 8.22 ERA and 2.09 WHIP on the road this season.

He'll be opposed by A.J. Burnett. He's been solid since a rough start to his time in Philadelphia, posting a 1.41 ERA in his last five.

The under is 7-3 in the Phillies’ last 10 interleague road games, and 5-0-1 in D.J. Reyburn’s last six interleague games behind home plate.

San Diego & Kansas City under 6.5

The San Diego Padres host the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday in game three of a three-game set.

The Padres will send out Andrew Cashner in this game. The under has been golden when Cashner takes the hill for the Padres. We cashed a ticket on the under in his last start, and we will go right back to that well in this one. Cashner has been rock solid at pitcher-friendly Petco Park in his career, and the under has been especially profitable when he starts because he gets so little run support. In his last three starts, the Padres have offered up just three runs of support.

The Royals counter with James Shields, and he’s been no stranger to pitching duels in his time with the Royals, now, in a pitcher-friendly park against a Padres team that is having a ton of trouble scoring the basketball, Shields should be at the top of his game.

The under is 7-0 in Cashner’s last seven home starts, and 7-0 in his seven starts overall.

Milwaukee & Arizona under 8

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday in game three of a three-game set.

Entering play on Tuesday, the under was an incredible 14-2 at Miller Park this season. Amazingly enough, the lone game that went over the total was by just a single run, and only eight total runs were produced in that game. The team’s pitching rotation has been a major bright spot, while the team’s offense hasn’t had the same power we’ve seen from them in recent years.

On Wednesday, Wily Peralta will oppose Bronson Arroyo. Peralta has been a very pleasant surprise for the Brew Crew this season, posting a 2.04 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP. Meanwhile, Arroyo was slow out of the gate in his tenure with the Diamondbacks. He was late to sign and missed most of Spring Training with a back injury, but he’s settled down, allowing just two runs on 10 hits in 13 1/3 innings of work over his last two starts.

The under is 5-0 in Peralta’s last five starts.

7* Play on Milwaukee & Arizona under 8

Reds vs. Red Sox Over 8.5 

The Cincinnati Reds travel to Boston and Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox starting Tuesday night. Both of these teams have been disappointing so far this year.

Homer Bailey starts for the Reds here, and Bailey has been bad against every decent lineup he has faced this year. The Red Sox were dinged up badly earlier in the year, but this Red Sox lineup is starting to look more dangerous in recent days. By the end of the year, I expect Boston to be among the league leaders in runs scored.

Cincinnati has historically hit left-handed pitchers very well. Doubront has been struggling with command both inside and outside the strike zone this season. The Reds have enough patient hitters to make him work hard here. Cincinnati should get plenty of scoring opportunities. Boston’s bullpen is subpar, and they’ll likely be in for a substantial amount of time.

The total here is set at a relatively low level of 8.5 runs. Both of these teams are perfectly capable of breaking out offensively, and they have favorable matchups in this one.

Kansas City & Detroit under 8.5

The Kansas City Royals host the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night in the third game of a four-game set. The Tigers are coming off an 8-2 win in game two in the series on Friday.

Drew Smyly gets the nod for the Tigers in this one. He'll take on a Royals lineup that has really struggled to generate offense this season. Of late, they've had even more trouble, scoring only six runs in their last three games.

Smyly will be opposed by Danny Duffy. Duffy hasn't gotten many opportunities to start, but he's been quite successful when getting those chances. Now he'll face a Tigers team that he's fared quite well against in his career. In two starts against them a year ago, Duffy posted a 1.74 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP.

The under is 5-1 in Duffy's last six starts against the Tigers, and 6-1-1 in his last eight starts at home. The under is 5-2 in Smyly's last seven starts overall.

Toronto vs. Pittsburgh Under 7.5

The Toronto Blue Jays have struggled against left-handed pitching. They’ll face a very good left-hander in Francisco Liriano in this one.  The Pirates have been bad against right-handed pitchers. They will be up against a good right-hander in R.A. Dickey.

R.A. Dickey was disappointing last year, and he’s been a bit up and down this year, but I like what I’ve seen from him. He is missing bats more often this year and has had some dominating stuff when he is on. I don’t expect the Pirates to be a lineup that fares well against a knuckleballer like him.

Liriano has been nearly unhittable at PNC Park over the last couple years. The Toronto lineup has too many guys who are free swingers. Liriano should use this to his advantage and get the Jays to chase bad pitches and strike out often.

This total is set relatively low, but I expected it to be even lower. These are two very good pitchers and two offenses that haven’t been hitting the ball. This has the potential to be one of those 2-1 type of games. Take the under.

San Diego & Arizona under 7

The San Diego Padres play host to the Arizona Diamondbacks in an N.L. West affair on Friday night.

It's no secret that the Padres can't score runs. San Diego has managed just 77 runs in their 29 games this season; 11 runs lower than the next worst team in the league. The Padres go up against Bronson Arroyo in tonight's affair, and while Arroyo is far from a good pitcher in the MLB, he's displayed dominance against the Padres in recent years. In Arroyo's last five starts against the Padres, he has 2.18 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. In his career at Petco, he boasts an even better 2.13 ERA.

On the other side of things, Andrew Cashner is simply lights out at home. In 14 home starts over the last two seasons, Cashner has an impressive 1.67 ERA and 0.94 WHIP. In his three home starts this year, Cashner's numbers are even better as he boasts a sparkling 0.81 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. The Diamonbacks struggle to produce runs away from home and have been downright awful against right-handed pitching all season.

The oddsmakers have missed the mark with this total and we're set to take advantage.

The Under is 10-2-1 at Petco this season, and a remarkable 23-4-1 in the last 28 games there. The Under is also 6-0 in Cashner's starts this season and 12-1 in his last 13 starts dating back to last season.

Miami & Atlanta under 7

The Miami Marlins host the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night in game three of a three-game set.

Both sides will be sending out an underrated starting pitcher on this night, and that allows us to get in at a favorable number in a pitchers' park. The Braves' Ervin Santana has been outstanding in his four starts with Atlanta, posting a 1.95 ERA with a 0.98 WHIP. His improved performance can be attributed in large part to an improved changeup. On Thursday he'll have a chance to improve on those numbers against a Marlins team that has struggled to score runs.

Santana will be opposed by Henderson Alvarez. Alvarez has looked strong in posting three consecutive quality starts, posting a 2.14 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in his last three outings, with the under going 2-0-1 in those contests, as the Fish held their opponents to 2.7 runs per game.

The under is 9-2-6 in Henderson Alvarez's last 17 starts as an underdog, and 7-1-3 in his last 11 starts against NL East opponents.

7* Play on Miami & Atlanta under 7

Pirates vs. Cardinals Over 6.5

A total set at 6.5 is pretty rare. It is usually reserved for teams between two excellent pitchers and two bad offenses. I don’t think this one should be so low.

Adam Wainwright definitely qualifies an elite pitcher, but the team he has struggled with most in his career is the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has an ERA above 4 in his career vs. this team. Most of the Pittsburgh lineup has good numbers against Wainwright.

Edinson Volquez starts for the Pirates. While he has been very good so far this season, he cannot be trusted. In his career, he has an ERA of just above 6 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. This Cardinals lineup is one of the best in baseball, and I don’t see Volquez continuing his hot start to the season here.

If this game gets to 3-3, then we have a winner with the over 6.5. The Cardinals are capable of putting up a big number against Volquez, and this total is set too low based on all the question marks surrounding the pitchers here. Take the over.

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Chicago Cubs on Sunday in game three of a three-game set. Wily Peralta gets the nod for the Brewers in this one. He’s been outstanding for Milwaukee this season, and that shouldn’t come as a surprise given the way he closed out last season. In his last 21 starts, Peralta has pitched like an ace, posting a 2.88 ERA. In those games, he’s started 12 times at home, posting a 2.72 ERA in those contests, with the under cashing in eight times in those 12 home starts. 

Jason Hammel gets the nod for the Cubs. He’s been outstanding for the team thus far, posting a 2.60 ERA with a 0.69 WHIP and .151 BAA this season. Hammel should be particularly successful against the Brewers when throwing his slider. He hasn’t allowed a hit on his slider yet this season, with opposing hitters going 0-for-16 in such at-bats. The Brewers have struggled with the pitch, hitting .157 on at-bats ending in sliders this season.

The under is 13-1 at Milwaukee’s Miller Park this season, and 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these teams.

NY Yankees & LA Angels under 9

The New York Yankees host the Los Angeles Angels on Friday in game one of a three-game set.

The Yankees will send out Hiroki Kuroda for this contest. He's been strong against the Angels in his career, posting a 1.78 ERA with a 0.79 WHIP against them since his rookie season (5 starts). The under went 4-1 in those starts. Kuroda's been somewhat shaky in the early going thus far, but expect him to turn things around in a big way in his home ballpark. The under is also 21-9-1 in his last 31 starts at Yankee Stadium.

The Angels counter with C.J. Wilson. He's gained a reputation as a Yankee killer. In five starts against the Bronx-bombers over the last three seasons, Wilson has posted a 2.08 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP. He's settled down after a poor first start to the year, and should keep the good times rolling against a Yankees lineup that struggles against him.

The under is 5-1 in the Yankees' last six home games.

The Toronto Blue Jays host the Boston Red Sox on Friday in game one of a three-game set.

In his last 20 starts, Mark Buehrle is 12-5 with a 3.11 ERA, The numbers that may not completely jump off the page, but keep in mind he’s done it while pitching in the always tough AL East. Even still, His numbers this season, well, they do jump off the page. Through four starts, Buehrle is 4-0 with a 0.64 ERA and 0.93 WHIP, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 19-5.

With Buehrle pitching as well as he has been, the under has been cashing in at a high rate in his starts, going 24-5-1 in his last 30 starts. He takes the hill Friday against Jake Peavy and the Boston Red Sox. In Peavy’s lone start against the Blue Jays a year ago, he surrendered just two runs on five hits in six innings of work. In fact, in his last five starts against the Blue Jays, Peavy has posted a 2.29 ERA with a 0.91 WHIP.

The under is 10-2 in the Red Sox last 12 road games, and 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these teams.

Cleveland & Kansas City under 8.5

The Cleveland Indians host the Kansas City Royals on Thursday afternoon in the fourth game of a four-game set. Cleveland is coming off a 5-3 win in the third game of the series on Wednesday.

The teams meet on Thursday with the Indians looking for a series win. They'll send out Corey Kluber in hopes of accomplishing that feat. Kluber pitched well against the Royals a year ago, posting a 3.28 ERA while limiting the Royals to a .217 batting average against him. He should again fare well against a Royals team that has scored the fourth-fewest runs per game in baseball.

The Royals counter with Bruce Chen. He has had some tough luck thus far, notably with his .417 batting average on balls in play, but he's been strong against the Indians. A year ago, he posted a 1.04 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in five appearances against them. Expect continued success against an Indians lineup that has the second lowest batting averages against southpaws this season.

The under is 4-1 in Chen's last five starts against the Indians.

Marlins vs. Braves Under 6.5

The Miami Marlins have phenom Jose Fernandez on the hill for this one. Fernandez is capable of shutting down any lineup in the majors. This kid has it all, and I expect him to be a top pitcher in this league for many many years.

Alex Wood is a newbie in the majors as well, and he has the stuff to be the Braves best pitcher in the coming years. Wood has been amazing so far this year, and the Marlins offense isn’t very good against quality left-handed pitching.

Atlanta’s offense hasn’t hit Fernandez well in their first two tries. He has an ERA just above 2 so far against them. Atlanta has too many free swingers to be too successful against a pitcher like Fernandez. This is a guy who can rack up the strikeouts in a big way.

The Marlins are certainly better than last year, but they haven’t won on the road at all and I don’t expect much from their offense against Wood.

Yankees vs. Rays Over 8.5 

The New York Yankees lineup is very good to start with, but they are even better against left-handed starting pitching. Tampa Bay has had no trouble scoring runs over the past couple years when playing against the New York Yankees. That is especially true when they are playing on their home field.

Cesar Ramos and Vidal Nuno aren’t to be trusted at all. Ramos has just been thrown in the starting rotation because the Rays are desperate for a starter due to injuries. Nuno hasn’t been healthy of late and he still hasn’t proven himself long term in the majors.

Both of these pitchers are more than capable of giving up a big inning, and I think that happens a couple times in this one. Since this game is expected to be very close, it wouldn’t be a shock to see it go into extra innings, which gives us more chances to see runs cross the plate.

Two solid offenses and two pitchers who are absolutely unproven in this one. Getting plus money at this nice value price is a bonus as well. Take the over. Good Luck, Razor Ray.

Atlanta & NY Mets under 7

The New York Mets host the Atlanta Braves on Saturday in game two of a three-game set. Atlanta is coming off a 6-0 victory in the series opener on Friday.

The under in Braves games has been a very profitable endeavor this far into the season. The team has gotten tremendous pitching thus far, with the team's starters posting a sparkling 1.47 ERA, while the bullpen has done its job as well, leading to a league-best 2.28 team ERA. One of the top contributors to that stat has been Ervin Santana. Santana turned down more lucrative offers to join Atlanta and pitch in the NL East for games just like this one. Santana is in Georgia on a one-year deal, looking to dominate the likes of the lowly Mets, Phillies, and Marlins, so he can sign a long-term deal in the offseason. This start offers us an opportunity to build our bankrolls together.

The Mets counter with Bartolo Colon. His base ERA is misleading because of some bad luck, but that only affords us some extra value in this one. He sshould begin to get that number back down against an inconsistent and struggling Braves lineup.

The Pittsburgh Pirates battle the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday evening.

Yovani Gallardo and Edinson Volquez get the call for their respective clubs. These two same pitchers produced a 3-2 final score last Saturday, and that's created strong value on the over in this contest. These lineups will be seeing the opposing pitchers for the second time in less than a week, and won't fall victim to the same types of pitches that they did on Saturday.

Edinson Volquez is not a good pitcher. He's posted an ERA above 5.70 in three of his last five seasons. The other two seasons were not particularly good ones either, as his ERA was in the lower fours. Volquez pitches against a Brewers lineup that has been stellar away from home to start the season. Milwaukee's wRC+ of 136 on the road leads the Majors and is one of the reasons that they're 6-0 away from home to begin the year.

On the other side of things, Yovani Gallardo is a good, but not great pitcher. A game total of 6.5 is giving him far too much respect, especially since he has a tendency to struggle with his control. Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen is batting .325 against Gallardo in his career, and plenty of other Pirates have favorable numbers as well.

The Over is 11-5 in Gallardo's last 16 starts when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Royals vs. Astros Under 9

The Kansas City Royals and Houston Astros both have offenses that have struggled to get going this year. Kansas City is likely to end up being decent on offense, but they have been dreadfully bad so far this year. Houston has what may be the worst offense in baseball this season.

Dallas Keuchel is the type of pitcher who could give the Royals some issues with his deceptive delivery. He pitches much better at home, and the Astros have been more competitive at home.

Jeremy Guthrie isn’t an elite pitcher, but I believe he is better than he is given credit for by most fans. Guthrie has quality stuff and generally has good control of his pitches inside the strike zone. I don’t expect a weak offense like the Astros to do much damage against him.

A total set at 9 runs means the oddsmakers see some favorable matchups for the hitters. I don’t see it that way in this contest. Look for this one to be a 4-3 type of game that stays under the total. Take the under. Good Luck, Razor Ray.

8* Mariners vs. Rangers Under 7

It’s Felix Hernandez vs. Yu Darvish in Texas on Wednesday night. Those who like to see a bunch of runs scored probably shouldn’t watch this game. This has all the makings of a great matchup of two pitchers are completely capable of pitching a shutout deep into the game.

Felix Hernandez is the type of guy that rises to the occasion when put into a matchup like this one. There will be all kinds of media and bright lights on this kind of a pitching showdown, but that doesn’t bother a guy like King Felix.

Yu Darvish has ridiculously nasty stuff, and he has been amazing both in the Spring and in the regular season thus far. No one would want to face Darvish right now. He allowed only one hit in his last outing.

Seattle’s offense has been better than expected so far this year, but that should change against a guy like Darvish. Texas’ offense just hasn’t come together yet, and the absence of Adrian Beltre hurts this team badly.

This number is low, but it isn’t low enough to keep me off the under. Look for a very low scoring game. Take the under. Good Luck, Razor Ray.

Arizona & NY Mets under 9

The Arizona Diamondbacks host the New York Mets on Monday night. Arizona is coming off an 8-6 loss to the Dodgers, while the Mets dropped their last game to the Angels, 14-2.

Joch Collmenter will make the start for the Diamondbacks in this one, getting his first start since 2011. Collmenter has served as a reliever for the team for the last couple years, though he was effective in his time as a starter. In 24 starts in 2011, Collmenter posted a 3.38 ERA. He should be able to continue his success on Monday when he takes on an inept Mets lineup that has had trouble scoring runs.

Zach Wheeler counters for the Mets. He had a strong outing in his lone start against the Diamondbacks in 2013. In that outing, he threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing only six hits and one run. The Mets won that game 4-1 in Arizona, with the game staying comfortably under the total.

The under is 4-1 in Zach Wheeler's last five starts following a Mets loss.

Minnesota & Kansas City over 8.5

The Kansas City Royals offense has been bad so far this year, but they aren’t as bad as their numbers would suggest. Remember, we have only seen a little less than two weeks of action at this point. That isn’t even close to determine how things will play out in the long MLB season.

Kansas City has a favorable matchup here against Kevin Correia. Correia has been torched in his last five starts against the Royals. The Royals lost the first two games of this series, and they should be hungry for a win here.

The Minnesota Twins do have some nice offensive pieces. Brian Dozier is showing some pop from the leadoff spot and Joe Mauer is one of the most professional hitters in the game. The depth of this lineup is better than most realize. Jason Vargas has a career ERA of over 8 against Minnesota. The Twins should put up several runs here.

This is a game where we see two mediocre pitchers who have fared poorly against the opposing lineups in the past. No reason to expect that to change in this one. Look for plenty of runs in this contest.

Seattle & Oakland under 7.5

The Seattle Mariners host the Oakland Athletics in an N.L. West battle on Saturday night.

After a blistering start to the season, the Mariners bats have cooled in the last week. Seattle managed to put up six runs in last night's contest against the A's, but had managed to hit just .175 as a team in their previous five games. Dustin Ackley had three hits last night, marking the first time this season that a Seattle batter had managed three hits in a game.

Hits won't be easy to come by against A's starter Sonny Gray. Gray has a sparking 0.75 ERA this season and an awesome 1.50 ERA in 3 career starts against the Mariners. Gray has struck out 18 Mariners in 18 innings of work, limiting Seattle to a .172 average.

On the other side of things, the Mariners send Erasmo Ramirez to the hill. Ramirez's 5.73 ERA is less than stellar, but his SIERA is more than a full point lower, indicating that he has pitched much better than his numbers have shown. Manager Lloyd McClendon has been very high on Ramirez heading into this season, and we're banking on his to return to the form that we saw in his first start against the Angels.

The Under is 5-0 in Ramirez's last 5 starts following a loss to the same team in his previous game.

Nationals vs. Braves Under 7

The Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves are very similar teams. They both have an excellent starting rotation and an even better bullpen. Putting up runs against these two teams is no easy task.

Tanner Roark has been surprisingly dominant in his first few starts in the major leagues. Roark has a bit of a strange delivery, and major league hitters have struggled with that deception. The Braves have yet to score a run off Roark in his young career.

Julio Teheran is one of the best young pitchers in the game. He was terrific all through the minors, and he had a breakout season in the majors last year. Teheran has an ERA of less than 3 in his career against the Nationals.

It’s hard to imagine either of these teams running away with this game. Atlanta’s Turner Field is a pitcher-friendly park where it is tough to hit home runs. Neither of these teams is likely to put together a bunch of hits against quality pitching like they will see today.

This is a low number, but it’s low for a good reason. Expect a very low scoring game. Take the under. Good Luck, Razor Ray.

Reds vs. Cardinals Over 7

Homer Bailey and Lance Lynn square off against one another in this key matchup tonight. Both of these guys are quality pitchers, but they have both had significant trouble against their opponents tonight.

Lynn hasn’t fared particularly well against the Reds of late, and Bailey has been awful against the Cardinals.

These are two lineups that are absolutely capable of scoring runs by the bunches. With a total set this low, it’s certainly possible that a couple big innings would win us this selection.

The Reds lineup has underperformed so far this year, but a lineup with Votto, Bruce, and Phillips will score runs.

The Cardinals might have the best lineup in the National League, and they are going to be very good this year.

The weather conditions appear to be favorable, and that’s always nice to have working in your favor. The wind will be blowing out at 10-15 mph here. I expected this total to be 8 or 8.5 runs, but seeing it at this level is just too low.

Toronto & Houston under 8.5

The Toronto Blue Jays host the Houston Astros on Tuesday in game one of a three-game set. Toronto is coming off a 6-4 loss to the New York Yankees, while Houston dropped its last game to the Los Angeles Angeles, 9-1.

We are getting a ton of value in this one as the oddsmakers seem to have forgotten how dominant Mark Buehrle was when he took the mound against the Astros a year ago. In two starts against the Astros last season, Buehrle allowed just one run in 17 innings of work, posting a 0.53 ERA and 0.76 WHIP. The under has been cash money when he's taken the hill for the Blue Jays. In his last 27 starts, the under is 22-4-1. The under is 8-1-1 in his last 10 home starts.

The Astros counter with Brett Oberholtzer, who has a 2.45 ERA ad 1.05 in his career as a starter. Oberholtzer has a 1.80 ERA in four career starts against AL East opponents. He'll face a Blue Jays offense struggling to score runs at the moment.

The under is 5-0-1 in Oberholtzer's last six starts.

White Sox vs. Rockies Over 10

The Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies both have very bad bullpens. If their starting pitching doesn’t get them far into a game, these teams are really in trouble.

Felipe Paulino and Jordan Lyles start in Monday’s game between these two, and I don’t trust either starter here.

Paulino is coming off a serious injury and was bad throughout the spring. He looked a bit off in his first start, but the Twins lineup didn’t make him pay for his mistakes. He won’t get so fortunate against an excellent Colorado Rockies lineup.

Lyles is a youngster who came with high praises from the minors, but he was rushed to the big leagues and he hasn’t been nearly as good as advertised thus far.

Lyles is unlikely to find it easy going at Coors Field where even the best pitchers often struggle.

Both of these teams have already had some really high scoring games this year. Look for this one to add another high scoring game to their fast growing list.

Kansas City & Tampa Bay under 8

The Kansas City Royals host the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday in game one of a three game set. Kansas City is coming off a 5-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox, while Tampa Bay fell to Texas their last time out, 3-0.

The Royals send out Jason Vargas in this one. He gets the nod after allowing just a single run on five hits in his first outing against a strong Detroit team. He also struck out six in seven innings of work. Now he gets a much easier matchup, which should help him to continue that success. The Rays have struggled against lefties in recent years, and have had an even tougher go of it in Kansas City in their recent trips there.

The Rays counter with Matt Moore, who had a strong outing of his own in his first start. He allowed just two runs in 5 2/3 innings of work in a loss to Toronto in that outing.

The under is 5-1 in the Royals' last six home games.

Houston & Los Angeles under 8.5

The Houston Astros host the Los Angeles Angels on Monday afternoon in game four of a four-game set. Houston is coming off a 7-4 win in game three of the series on Sunday.

Jarred Cosart gets the nod for the Astros in this one. Cosart has a career 1.80 ERA and 1.31 WHIP while allowing opposing batters to hit at a clip of just .219. Not many know much about the 23-year-old, but he brings a 95+ mph heater to the mound with him, and so far, opposing batters have had a tough time connecting with him. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of his 11 career starts.

C.J. Wilson counters for the Angels. Wilson had a rough go of it in his last outing, surrendering six runs against the Mariners, but expect him to bounce back in this one. Wilson faced off with the Astros four times last season, posting a 2.02 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in those outings. He also limited opposing batters to a .210 clip.

The under is 7-1 in the Astros’ last eight games overall.

New York & Baltimore under 8.5

The New York Yankees host the Baltimore Orioles in game one of a three-game set on Monday afternoon. New York is coming off a 6-4 win over Toronto, while Baltimore beat Detroit on Sunday, 3-1.

The typically offensive-oriented Orioles have played under the total in four of their first six games on the season, including Ubaldo Jimenez’s first start with the club. Jimenez has a checkered past when facing the Yankees, but he should be able to put some quality work in against a Yankees squad that has had a tough time pushing runs across. The Yankees have only one home run on the season.

Hiroki Kuroda counters for the Yankees. The under has cashed in each of the five times he has taken the hill at Yankee Stadium to face the Orioles. In two home outings against the Orioles last season, Kuroda didn’t allow a run, throwing 16 shutout innings, while allowing just eight hits.

The under is 16-5-2 in the last 23 meetings between these teams in New York.

Pittsburgh & St. Louis over 7

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday in game three of a three-game set.

At first glance, it appears this is a game in which runs will be at a premium. With a low number posted for the game, it's understandable to expect a matchup between studs on the mound, but upon closer inspection, we’re getting a ton of value on the over.

Adam Wainwright is a great pitcher, but he has not been great in his career against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wainwright has a career 4.81 ERA against Pittsburgh in the regular season, posting a 1.42 WHIP, and allowing opposing batters to hit for a .282 clip against him. When pitching at PNC Park, he has a 5.46 ERA while allowing opposing batters to hit at a .313 clip.

The Pirates counter with Edinson Volquez. Volquez's career has fallen off a cliff, and he's really seen his production decline mightily in recent years. Even including his prime years, Volquez hasn't enjoyed taking the hill against the Cardinals, posting a 5.56 ERA and 1.44 WHIP against them.

The over is 14-1-4 in Wainwright’s last 19 starts against Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday in game two of a three-game set. Pittsburgh is coming off a 12-2 win in game one of the series on Friday.

Don't let that final score in game one of the series fool you. Neither side has had an easy time scoring runs this season. For the Pirates, they scored a total of seven runs in their season-opening three-game set against the Cubs, while the Cardinals opened their season with a pair of 1-0 games against the Reds. That could be more of what we see on Saturday, with a pair of studs taking the hill, each of whom has had success in this matchup.

Francisco Liriano started the year with six shutout innings against the Cubs, now he gets a Cardinals team that he posted a 0.75 ERA and a 0.63 WHIP against in the regular season a year ago. Meanwhile, Cardinals starter Joe Kelly posted a 2.53 ERA against the Pirates last regular season.

The under is 15-5-2 in the Cardinals' last 22 games against left-handed starters.

Detroit & Baltimore over 8.5

The Detroit Tigers host the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon in game two of a three-game set. Detroit is coming off a 10-4 win in game one on Friday.

The Tigers haven't had much difficulty scoring runs this season, putting up 16 in their first three games, all wins. The team now gets to face Bud Norris, who has a horrible home-road split in his career, which points to more success for the Tigers' offense. Over the last three seasons, Norris has posted a 5.25 ERA while allowing opposing batters to hit at a .276 clip.

The Tigers counter with Rick Porcello. The over has been a profitable play for bettors when Porcello takes the hill. The over has cashed in each of the last five times he has taken the hill on a Saturday, and he will be going up against a strong Baltimore lineup in this one. Expect to see some fireworks at Comerica Park.

The over is 5-2 in Norris's last seven starts overall.

Oakland & Seattle over 7.5

The Oakland Athletics host the Seattle Mariners on Thursday in game one of a four-game set.

A quick glance at these squads, combined with a failure to pay much attention to the season series between these teams, and the way the two rosters have changed, and this total would seem about right. However, the over cashing in has been far more common in recent meetings. In fact, the over has cashed in nine of the last 10 times these teams have met.

That trend should keep right on rolling on Thursday. The Mariners weren`t quiet about getting better offensively in the offseason, bringing in some big tickets, including Robinson Cano. Meanwhile, the Athleitcs have gotten better offensively a little more quietly, with guys like Yoenis Cespedes and Jed Lowrie playing big roles.

The mound matchup lends itself in our favor as well. Roenis Elias is getting the call up way too early in his development, while Jesse Chavez has no business getting starts in the majors, with a career ERA near 6, helped only by some strong relief appearances. His career ERA as a starter is 10.38.

The over is 5-0 in the last five meetings between these teams.

The San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks meet at Chase Field tonight. Early in the season, Chase Field is a tremendous hitters ballpark when the roof is open.

Tonight, the wind is expected to be blowing out, so that will help out even more than normal.

San Francisco’s lineup is better than it was last year, and anytime you have a guy like Buster Posey in the middle of the lineup you are capable of scoring runs by the bunches. The Giants haven’t had much trouble scoring runs so far in this series, and I think that continues here.

Arizona has one of baseball’s best young hitters in Paul Goldschmitt. The lineup around him is pretty good when hitting at Chase Field. Tim Hudson pitches for the Giants here, and he is clearly past his prime.

Hudson is capable of giving up the long ball, and conditions are ripe for homers tonight in Arizona.

Trevor Cahill hasn’t been sharp in Spring Training or in his first start this year. Cahill is likely to encounter plenty of speed bumps in tonight’s start.

Milwaukee & Atlanta under 8

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Atlanta Braves in game two of their three-game series on Tuesday night. Milwaukee won game one in the series on Monday, 2-0.

The teams were locked in a pitchers dual on Monday, and we could see more of the same when the teams lock horns on Tuesday. Kyle Lohse takes the bump for the Brew Crew in this one. He posted a 3.35 ERA for the team a year ago. He was even better when taking the hill at home, posting a 2.97 ERA in 16 home starts in 2013. He’s fared well against a pair of Atlanta’s more reliable hitters, as Justin Upton and Chris Johnson are a combined 4-for-30 in their careers against him.

Atlanta counters with Alex Wood. A dark horse for the team to have a strong year, Wood posted a 3.13 ERA in his rookie season a year ago. He didn’t allow a run in three appearances against Milwaukee last season.

The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these teams, and 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings in Milwaukee.

Braves vs. Brewers Under 7.5

The Atlanta Braves have a young star in Julio Teheran. He started the season a little bit slowly last year, but he looked tremendous by the end of the season.

Look for Teheran to be on his game from day one this season. He dominated in Spring Training, and I look for that to continue in the regular season.

Teheran has several high quality pitchers, and he is great at keeping hitters guessing. If the Brewers are able to make him work and force him to leave the game relatively early, the Braves have the best bullpen in baseball so that won’t hurt the under nearly as much as it would with most teams.

Yovani Gallardo is an up and down pitcher, but his history against the Braves is tremendous.

No one in this Braves lineup has consistently been able to hit Gallardo. Atlanta’s lineup is strong in the middle, but the bottom of the order is questionable.

The Brewers bullpen was one of the top five in baseball last year as well, and they made some moves to get even better in the offseason. Two good starting pitchers and two good bullpens here.

Phillies vs. Rangers Under 8

The Philadelphia Phillies aren’t close to the team they used to be. This used to be a dominant team in the NL East, and now the Braves and Nationals are both far better than them.

Philadelphia’s biggest problem is they no longer have a good lineup. There are holes all over the place in this lineup.

Expect the Phillies offense to have trouble putting together big innings all year long. The top and bottom of this order are much weaker than the average MLB lineup.

Scheppers is an improving young pitcher for the Rangers, and I like his chances of shutting down the Phillies here.

The Phillies do still have a couple great pitchers, and Cliff Lee starts in this one. The Texas Rangers lineup is a good one, but Lee is one of those elite pitchers who generally pitches well regardless of who he is pitching against.

The Ballpark in Arlington is a great hitters park, but that is primarily the case when the weather is very warm later in the year.

The temperature will be moderate here and the wind will be blowing. Don’t expect many offensive fireworks in this contest.

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Chicago Cubs on Monday afternoon.

These teams opened up against one another to begin the 2013 season, and that series played to three unders, with a total of just 12 runs scored in the three-game series. Each of those games played under the total by multiple runs, and we expect more of the same in this one.

Jeff Samardzija and Francisco Liriano will face off this time around. Samardzija has had the Pirates' number. In 14 appearances against them over the last three seasons, he has posted a 2.28 ERA, while limiting opposing hitters to a .187 batting average. On the flip side, Liriano took care of business against the Cubs a year ago. In five starts, he posted a 2.12 ERA, while limiting opposing hitters to a batting average of just .158.

The under is 3-0-1 in Samardzija's last four road starts against the Pirates, and it is 4-1 in Liriano's last five starts against the Cubs.

He's been even better at home, posting a 2.24 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP at Fenway.

In addition to that, Lackey has been better in day games than at night, posting a 2.86 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP in early starts.

Doug Fister counters for the Tigers. He has been solid for the Tigers this season, posting a 3.81 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP.

The Los Angeles Dodgers host the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of their three-game set on Tuesday night. The Dodgers won 6-2 in Game 1 on Monday.

We rarely see a posted total as low as 5.5 in the Major Leagues nowadays. This usually implies two of the league's best pitchers are on display, but in the case of Travis Wood, we'd strongly disagree.

Wood gets the nod for the Cubbies and while his 3.22 ERA on the season is strong, his recent performances have us skeptical. Wood has a 4.50 ERA over his last three starts and has given up four earned runs in consecutive contests.

In Wood's only start against the Dodgers this season, he surrendered five earned runs in just 3.3 innings of work.

If the Cubs are forced to use their bullpen early on, things aren't likely to get much better. The Cubs bullpen boasts a 4.24 ERA with an ugly 1.400 WHIP this season. We're confident that the Dodgers alone can cash the over in tonight's matchup.

Clayton Kershaw is on the mound for the Dodgers and while he's undoubtedly the best pitcher in baseball right now, it should be noted that two of his last three starts have seen totals above 6, so we'll gladly capitalize on this low number.

The over is 8-3 in the Dodgers last 11 games as a home favorite of -201 or greater.

Tom Milone gets the call for the A's in this one. Milone's ERA on the road isn't pretty at 4.87 but he's been the victim of some bad luck. His road WHIP of 1.278 is much more respectable and indicates that he's not putting runners on base.

Milone started three times against the Tigers in 2012 and didn't allow more than 3 ER in any of those contests.

The Tigers counter with their former ace, Justin Verlander. Verlander sports a respectable 3.90 ERA at home but it's his numbers against the Athletics that have us loving the under.

Verlander has a career ERA of 2.28 against the A's, but more importantly, he's surrendered just two earned runs in his last three starts against Oakland.

The under is 9-3 in Verlander's last 12 starts vs. the Athletics.

The Under is 10-4 in the A's last 14 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.

Anibal Sanchez has faced the Kansas City Royals three times since being acquired by the Tigers, and those three contests have produced a TOTAL of four runs.

Ryan Vogelsong will make his second start back from a major injury. Vogelsong has struggled all year, and he has a 5.16 ERA in his career against Washington.

The Nationals have gotten their act together a bit over the last few days, and this offense is much improved.

It was only a matter of time until the Nationals offense finally showed up. Bryce Harper is a major catalyst, and guys like Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Laroche are driving in runs right now.

Dan Haren will be on the mound for the Nationals here. Haren has been bad this year. He has a 4.99 ERA overall in 2013.

The Houston Astros are the most hapless team in all of baseball. They do have a good farm system, so the Astros should get better in the coming years, but right now they have almost nothing going for them.

This is the perfect opportunity for them to keep up or even gain ground on Texas by going up against the worst team in baseball.

Lester posted a 7.62 ERA in the month of June, but that number has lowered to 3.13 in the month of July.

He's been consistently good at home all season, posting a 2.95 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP at Fenway.
