Not afraid to go inside the number with two frustrated units, especially the Orioles who were shutout last night 2-0 by Texas at Camden Yards.  Here the venue is sets up in Chicago with the Birds fairly hefty road chalk...Baltimore is 3-1-1 OVER vs. LHP (Danks), White Sox 5-0 OVER as an underdog.  Now when you factor in RHP Jimmenz you might become concerned considering his solid 3.09 ERA this season.  However, we note if you pull out his 13 innings (1 earned run) vs. Cleveland his ERA changes greatly.   As far as Danks, the veteran was 0-4 in June with a 17 earned runs given up in 22-1/2 innings.  Overall, this situation looks to be more off an offense show, although you might see an early Strip line reduction...No mattter...GO HIGH!

Both clubs have struggled in their first two games at the plate going UNDER the number.  However, despite hot Bartolo Colon throwing against improving Matt Latos, I fully expect this get away game to be a high scoring affair.   Interesting trend has NY OVER w/Colon starting after 5 days of rest...11-0 OVER to be exact.  In addition, the Mets are 10-1 OVER vs. a unit .

The line movement down from 9 is an indicator that public perception that RHP Dickey has the ability to throw BB sharps.  We have some doubt in that area as the Jays are 5-1 OVER with Dickey as an underdog and 12-5 OVER in his last 17 starts...that's a SHARP 70%.  In the last seven series meetings the total has shot OVER 4-of-7 with 17, 11, 4, 7, 17, 7 and 18 being the total runs scored...OVER 10 and a game on average.  Further Boston has hit OVER 5 straight in Fenway and 7-1 OVER vs. a foe with a losing road mark in game #3 of a series. Porcello has a 6.48 ERA and Dickey 5.25...Finally the Jays are a super 6-0-1 OVER on gras...OVER.

On Thursday afternoon the Cards and Nationals do battle in Washington.  Washington uses RHP Wacha vs. the Cardinals Scherzer.  Going into Wednesday the Nationals were averaging 4.1 runs per game.  Visiting STL is averaging 3.1 runs per game with a TBA of .260, while Washington is cracking a less formidable .226.  Trending numbers show STL 3-0-1 UNDER in Washington.  WithWacha the Cards are 12-2-2 UNDER.

Yesterday we talked about the Padres hitting unit being dead last in 2014, after the Cubs game they have surged to a remarkable #3 in TBA this season.  With their restructured lineup they are bringing it every night.  Here we look at two offensive minded units with Detroit’s great start #3 in TBA with a .303 and an OBP of .368. Detroit is averaging 5.4 runs per game. The Yankees have picked up lately #7 in TBA with a .414 slugging %, they are averaging 5 runs a game.  Today’s hurlers Eovaldi (4.35) and Lobstein (5.40) have been inconsistent in the early sets. We look at the balls and strikes umpire Will Little as a factor with his critical 4-0 OVER mark on Tuesday’s.  In addition, the Yankees have gone OVER at a…10-2 rate, while achieving a PERFECT 9-0 OVER record when facing a hurler with a 1.35 WHIP or higher. New York is 9-0 OVER off a loss.  With the Tigers 13-5-1 OVER when the money line is 110-150, we’ll take a ticket with the OVER on Tuesday.

4* San Diego/Colorado OVER the total

As you know playing in Colorado allows for serious total consideration over.  When he put together our numbers we note last year Colorado was #3 in hitting at seasons end. The are now ranked #15 with a .271 BA and a .308 OBP.  San Diego was dead last #30 last season in batting stats. The Padres with player personnel moves have now jumped up to #10 in the early going with a .271 BA and a .317 OBP.  This helps support SD techs which illustrate 6-0-1 OVER as an underdog and 7-1 OVER off a win.  With Despaignes on the road the Padres are 5-1 OVER.  Colorado has always been a looked upon unit when at home, both SU and vs. the total.  They are running 20-8-1 OVER ind their park, 4-0 OVER with LaRosa on the hill.  Finally, Colorado is 6-1 OVER after previous opponent scored 5+ runs...OVER!

Note, KC has not started 5-0 since 2003, no factor in this analysis...but, it could be down the road for the AL opposition.  

LAA is 2-2 with an up and down start via the rotation and starting lineup.  As you know Jose Hamilton is not in the lineup. 32-year old RHP Weaver (18-9) 3.59 ERA in 2014 apparently, and based on current reality, has lost much in his fastball...down to 83.5 mph.  Weaver shows off an initial start accruing 6 IP vs. Seattle with 8 hits given up, allowing 4 earned runs. With the speed issue and the prior performance, Weaver's 5-0 record (0.87) vs. KC is somewhat mitigated. KC has veteran Guthrie hitting the bump today carrying a 2-1 record with a 2.63 ERA from spring sessions. His 13-11 mark and 4.13 ERA in 2014 was respectable. HOWEVER, Guthrie is 0-2 w/a 6.00 ERA vs. LAA...!! Although the series has shot UNDER in 4 straight, must pass on that tendency, while looking at KC's 3-0-1 OVER tendency w/Guthrie in Saturday editions! too. Plus they are 12-3-1 OVER vs. hurlers w/a WHIP of greater than 1.30. KC is 5-1 OVER in Saturday encounters...We close w/LAA a sharp 4-1 OVER record vs. pitchers w/a WHIP...HIGH!

Plus San Francisco is UNDER w/Peavy 3-0-1 in his last 4 starts.  KC is 9-2 UNDER in Wednesday editions and 6-0-1 UNDER w/Ventura at home vs. >.500 units. With umpire Eric Cooper calling balls and strikes (interleague play) the total is 4-1 UNDER and 4-1 UNDER in KC on Wednesday’s. No doubt Jake Peavy has had problems (5-7) against KC, but after last night believe we will see the Royals over swinging looking to even the World Series…Very close low scoring game on Wednesday night…Good Luck!

With the weather changing here for game #1, look for the different idiosyncrasies of each unit to come out big time.  The Royals show 4-0 OVER on grass with RHP Shields, and 5-1-1 OVER vs. LHP.  Giants have gone OVER 4 straight, while hitting the same note at 4-0 OVER vs. RHP.  Plus the Giants have gone OVER 5-6 in interleague play as a chalk.  Although lefty Bumgarner has an edge over Shields, I look for the Royals to come alive offensively being at home with all that EMOTION driving the number OVER!

However, the key here is KAZMIR who has already stated, "I will straighten it out next time."  The UNDER is 11-0 in the series, while going 8-0 UNDER in Oakland.

First off, without question (no matter the result) this is a clear dead spot (emotional) for each club.  Cleveland shows 8-1 UNDER in game #3 of the series and 5-0 UNDER with RHP Carasco booked as a chalk.  Houston has been great play low after they lose a game (quite often) at a PERFECT 7-0 UNDER.  With the Astros hurler Oberholtzer the number has shot UNDER in 6-of-7 off a loss.  Overall the series has paid dividends UNDER with a 17-5-2, 5-1-2 UNDER at Houston. We close using our umpire notes that have Houston UNDER 6-of-7 with Paul Nauret calling balls and strikes, while being 5-1 UNDER in Wednesday encounters with the Astros.

Now that the Nationals have clinched the NLE.  They can concentrate on getting healthy for the playoffs. Jumping back into the total action on Monday with a sure fire BEST BET…The Royals (81-67) show with fade characteristics as they one led the ALC.  They currently sit 1-1/2 games out of first with the Detroit Tigers leading the way.  The Sox are 68-81 and are playing for next years’ contracts. If the Royals are to recapture the top divisional spot they will continue to need outstanding work by RHP Shields.  The veteran shows off back-to-back super efforts and now faces the Sox with a 1-1 record L3 starts this season allowing only 5 runs in 20 innings of work.  Inconsistent Lefty Danks takes the hill for the Sox and, although, he has exhibited inconsistent form this season, Danks has been PERFECT of late vs. KC with a 2.58 ERA and a 6-0 record.  Remember the SOX are UNDER in 5-of-6 road outings vs. KC. Our game of the year has been projected as such simply because of the value inside erroneous line movement from 7-1/2-to-7 and the fact KC is a shaken unit. They lost to Boston 6-3 yesterday and now set up just 1/2 game ahead of Detroit in the division.  I love revenge, off a loss and rebound scenario's in handicapping. The Royals fit our mold going up against staggering RHP Webster of Boston who is 0-4 L4 starts with a 0-2 mark and a nice fat 8.42 ERA.

And the line is going down?

Boston has shot OVER at a 10-3 rate with Webster.  With umpire Gonzales on Friday's the numbers has gone OVER at a 3-1-1 clip. You say not strong enough numbers? But, go on the assumption that the Royals are going to come out swinging putting up some solid crocked numbers. Since KC has the fan support tonight magnifies our study...HIGH

10* UNDER 7...KAZMIR vs. Sale

We not it's about 4:00 AM Eastern and we are putting this move on the board without an overall analysis to save time as quite possibly the line could shift to 6 1/2. If it does back off the game. Kaz's ERA has started to inflate, but he s/b in high alert after the A's 2-1 to CWS. This is a must win for Oakland. Haren vs. Kennedy....RHP Danny Haren has looked awesome in his L3 starts allowing just 2 earned runs on 12 hits in 19 innings of work.  In his last three starts the total is UNDER 2-OF-3.  The Dodgers have shot UNDER 7-of-8 on Wednesday's, while the series is 19-of-26 UNDER overall. With Kennedy throwing for San Diego the number has gone UNDER 16-of-20 in this price range.  In Kennedy's last 2-of-3 outings he has looked great with 15 innings in the books giving up just 1 earned run.  He did have one bad outing against LA earlier allowing 5 earned runs, but his control was way off.  So, I would put that start in a separate column. He has looked solid overall, while being a consistent bet in road games with a 11-3 UNDER mark.  With umpire Woodring behind the plate the total has shot UNDER in 4 straight. GO LOW!

Is RHP Aaron Harang wilting? He is a 36-year old hurler who is 0-3 in his last three starts, even though possessing a 3.87 ERA. Last time out against the light hitting Marlins he was roasted for six runs on ten hits in just 3-2/3 innings of work, losing 11-3. On August 9th he gave up just one earned run in seven innings vs. Washington. Still, don't automatically assume he will replicate that outing. RHP Strasburg is throwing for Washington, so the immediate assertion is that we have a low scoring game on-deck. Remember Washington 8-1-1 OVER in home games vs. >.500 teams, 8-1 OVER in this money line position. With Strasburg the Nationals have gone OVER at a 3-0-1 clip with Marty Foster calling balls and strikes, 6-0 OVER Wednesday's. Also, the Braves have gone OVER 5 straight with Harang off 4 days of rest, 5-0 OVER in road games.

Not afraid to go HIGH tonight in this battle down in Washington. The Phillies show off a 7-4 loss to conclude the Atlanta road series, but non-the-less still on a 7/10 winning clip. The Nationals who are coasting in first place via the NLE arrive home off an 8-5 road loss to the Dodgers. Washington is jut 5-5 L10 out. Coming into action the Phillies entry of RHP Williams is on a solid 2-0, 2.03 ERA run after 6-1/3 innings of work vs the Mets, allowing 2 runs and only 4 hits. His mount adversary RHP Strasburg is 4-0 with a 1.40 ERA against Philadelphia this season. In 25-2/3 innings of work vs. Philadelphia the hurler has allowed 4 runs with 35 strikeouts.

Still, this is a flat spot for Washington after the road swing knowing they are coasting in the east. The Phillies are still fostering a "want-to-wn" attitude. So, I actually see a higher scoring game here, despite the pitching memo above. Recall, Strasburg is 7/10 OVER vs. the Phillies, an indicator the Nats support. Washington/Strasburg are 8-1 OVER in game #1 of series, and 6-1-1 OVER in Friday editions. Against RHP Washington 12-3-1 OVER at home. Philly is 4-0 OVER vs. RHP, 11-4-1 OVER in game #1 of a series.

Tampa Bay is coming off a walk-off win in extras (4-3) over struggling Boston.  The Sox only managed 6 hits and looked tired, depressed if you will.  The Rays are 6-10 L16 out and use RHP Hellickson (1-2, 2.98) who has a nice 5-3 mark against the Blue Jays with a 3.06 ERA.  TB is hitting .249 as a team ranked #21 in MLB, while surpassing the Yankees, Cardinals and the Braves with their sticks?   Further, TB could help our cause tonight in the field as they have now eclipsed 75+ errors.  TB is OVER in 4 straight game #1 editions.  We know RHP Dickey (10-12, 4.00) of Toronto has control issues, while being susceptible to the long-ball, 7 home runs allowed L8 games. 10* Phillies/Atlanta OVER the total of 6 1/2

The Sunday table issued a warning to all UNDER players as even the most obvious situation went down hard...Vegas cleaned up.  Case in point, the Phillies visit to Atlanta brings stellar LHP Cole Hamels (7-6, 2.59) to the mound against RHP Teheran (13-9, 2.90) of the Braves. The current total in Vegas rests this morning @ 6 1/2...We note the Phillies w/Hamels are OVER at an 8-of-10 at that number.  The Phillies are playing out the string, and despite playing out the season they showed real emotion yesterday in their 6-5 loss to New York.  On the other hand, Atlanta was rolling earlier in the season in first place, but now are struggling to secure a playoff spot as a wild card.  So, they will be UP today in the battle with Hamels. We know the Braves are 3-0-1 UNDER at home vs. LHP.  However, there are too many negatives supporting the low concept. In contrast, the Phillies are 13-2-2 OVER after the opposition scored >2 runs.  Finally, Atlanta fields 6-2 OVER at home in the series, and 6-1-4 OVER in game #1 of series.

With Oakland’s Sean Doolittle injured I have kept this angle as a BEST BET, rather than a TOP PLAY.  Last night the Angels won 4-3 right on today’s number.  Remember, these are two powerful units with the division at stake on every pitch….So, with the series UNDER 25-10-3 in Los Angeles and LAA a PERFECT 12-0-1 UNDER w/Weaver in his home outings, we can’t help staying LOW tonight.  Lester is 13-8, with a 2.53 ERA and Weaver 14-7 and a 3.72 ERA current reality is supported. Plus Weaver is 7-0 UNDER as an UNDERDOG…Go Under!

With Kendricks issues in the early innings, and Washington off a loss expect the run machine to be in HIGH gear this evening for the visitors.  Both Fister and Kendrick have been consistent OVER plays this season...GO OVER!
