Derek Lowe managed to pick up a win in his first start of the season giving up just three hits in 5.7 innings of work to the punchless Washington Nationals. Lowe won both match-ups against the Brewers last season, but he wasn't really that impressive in either game. He allowed five runs and 14 hits in 11.3 innings. Among the Brewers with great numbers against the righty are Rickie Weeks (5-12), Ryan Braun (4-9), Craig Counsell (10-28), Mark Kotsay (6-16), Nyjer Morgan (15-28) and Casey McGehee (3-6). The Jays continue their home stand as they welcome Oakland to town on Tuesday night. Toronto turns to Jo-Jo Reyes who used to pitch for the Braves. Ironically, Reyes, who has dropped 10 consecutive decisions, actually has a win over Oakland. The Toronto starter gave up two runs and eight hits in five innings pitched in a 5-2 win on May 18th, 2008. Only four A's hitters have seen the lefty with Josh Willingham (0-2, 2 K's) and Conor Jackson (1-4) doing the poorest. Last year, the A's were 34-47 away from home. Reyes will be backed by a bullpen that has allowed only one earned run in 8.7 innings of work. Brandon McCarthy makes the start for Oakland. He had a bit of a rocky spring giving up 14 runs and 29 hits in 26 innings of work. McCarthy is known for his control walking only one during those 26 innings. McCarthy is 20-24 with a 4.56 ERA in his career. Aaron Hill (4-12) and Jose Molina (3-7) have good numbers against the righty. As a team, Toronto is hitting .313 while averaging 7.3 runs per game in the process. They'll likely see an Oakland bullpen that is 0-2 with a blown save and a 5.79 ERA so far this season. All three of Lee's starts came on the road so he won't be afraid of the San Francisco crowd. They are hitting .231 during the postseason while averaging just three runs per game. The Rangers bullpen is 14-6 with a 3.23 ERA on the road blowing only six saves in 32 chances. Tim Lincecum's postseason hasn't gone as smoothly. He's 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA in three starts after giving up six runs and 12 hits in 23 innings pitched. The righty gave up all six runs in his two starts against the heavy-hitting Phillies. Lincecum will get an equal challenge facing the Rangers who are entering the game on an offensive roll. Texas is averaging 5.4 runs per game this postseason while hitting .281 in the process. They went 14-4 in interleague play hitting over .290 as a team in those games. He has struggled a bit this season against the Giants, but they are struggling offensively right now. Edgar Renteria (6-24), Aaron Rowand (3-15), Juan Uribe (1-8), Aubrey Huff (1-7), Eli Whiteside (0-6), Pat Burrell (0-2) and, Mike Fontenot (0-2) all struggle with Hamels. As a team, the Giants are hitting .206 in six games during these playoffs. They are only 30-25 in the daytime while hitting .248 in that situation. Matt Cain gets the start for the Giants. He's 13-11 with a 3.05 ERA in 34 games this season. The righty lost his only start against the Phillies this season after giving up five runs and seven hits in six innings of work. He has yet to defeat Philadelphia in five starts in his career. Chase Utley (7-15), Jimmy Rollins (6-10), Carlos Ruiz (2-4), and Jayson Werth (1-3) have good numbers against Cain. The Phillies are hitting .221 in the playoffs, but are making their hits count more. They are hitting .261 as a team in the daytime and .259 against right handed starters. It's not like being at home has helped the Giants as they scored just five runs against the Braves in their two games in San Francisco. Nick Swisher (6-20), Derek Jeter (5-14), Robinson Cano (4-14), Marcus Thames (5-11), Austin Kearns (3-7), and Francisco Cervelli (3-7) all have had good success against Wilson. The Reds are coming off a demoralizing loss in Philadelphia in which they had four errors in one inning and blew an early lead with their amazing reliever Aroldis Chapman on the hill. Now they have to pick the pieces up and face Cole Hamels who is no slouch as a number three pitcher. Hamels is 12-11 with a 3.06 ERA in 33 starts this season. He's solid on the road at 5-6 with a 3.30 ERA. The lefty shut the Reds out over 7.7 innings back in July while giving up just six hits. He's 6-0 with a 1.07 ERA in seven starts against Cincinnati. Brandon Phillips (2-22), Scott Rolen (3-12), Jay Bruce (1-12), Joey Votto (2-9), Jonny Gomes (1-5), and Ryan Hanigan (0-1) all struggle with Hamels. Cincinnati is a better team at home, but they've dug themselves a big hole as the Reds are hitting just .103 as a team so far in this series. Johnny Cueto makes the start for the Reds. He's 12-7 with a 3.64 ERA in 31 outings. The righty enters the game having lost two straight outings to the Astros and Brewers. Cueto has made two starts against the Phillies this season and he gave up three runs and 10 hits in 15 innings pitched. He was on the losing end of a 22-1 blowout loss last July in Philadelphia where he didn't get out of the 1st inning after giving up nine runs in the process. Shane Victorino (5-10), Ryan Howard (3-10), Jayson Werth (3-9), and Chase Utley (2-7) all hit Cueto well. The Phillies are 45-36 on the road where they are averaging 4.7 runs per game.
