The Stars are the NHL's second-highest scoring team with 3.07 goals per game while the Sabres are last at 1.76. Ted Nolan knows his team is over matched and will implement a tough defensive mind set here tonight on the road  based on transition hockey.

Anders Lindback of the Sabres is expected to start tonight, he is just 1-4-2  in 8 apperences for Buffalo but owns a  solid  2.49 goals-against average and wont be easily scored on. The Devils are a defense first team, and Ted Nolans young men dont convert their shots into goals very often. The Devils in a unique forechecking system continue to wait for their opportunities offensively in transition which often results in low scoring affairs. The  NJ Devils are 9-0 UNDER   against poor possession teams-averaging 3+ less shots on goal than opp in the 2nd half of the year over the last couple of seasons, with an average of 3.7 gpg going on the board and   8-0 UNDER   against light scoring teams that average 2.4 o rless goals per game this season with an average of 3.6 gpg going on the scoreboard.

Dubnyk  the Wilds goalie has  been red hot since getting traded from  Arizona on Jan. 14. Including a 25-save performance in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over Nashville, he has recorded a 1.67 goals-against average since joining the Wild - second only to Montreal's super star stopper Carey Price . Meanwhile, Washington 29-12 UNDER  in road games vs top tier defensive teams  allowing 2.55 or less  goals per game over the last couple of seasons.

The Blackhawks played a speedy NY Islanders squad ast night, but were able to close lanes and keep their opponents to the outside in a 4-1 win. Tonight on tired legs I expect another hardcore stay at home battle will be on the agenda, vs a Rangers side, that is currently in a defensive mind set entering the play offs. 

Chicago is 21-6 UNDER  revenging a loss versus opponent this season  registering a combined 4.7 gpg and 10-1 UNDER  when playing on back-to-back days this season with a combined average 4 gpg going on the board. The Rangers have gone under in all 7 games they have played this March, with an average of just 3 combined goals going on the scoreboard.

The tough St.Louis Blues visit the Alberta  to play the Calgary Flames this Tuesday night. The Blues have always played tough defense, but with the play offs approaching, DEFENSE is a rpiority. The Flames dont have the firepower to go mano a mano with the Blues, but their forechecking system is formidable, and will allow them to keep this game close tight and low scoring. Calgary is 20-10 UNDER  in home games against top tier  opposition  who  outscore their opponents by 0.5+ goals per  game dating back to last  season.

NYI goalie Jaroslav Halak is 4-0-0 with a 2.04 goals-against average in his last five starts against the Blackhawks.Chicago counters with Corey Crawford, who is 5-0-1 with a 1.16 GAA in his last six overall. Both these teams gear up for the play offs and defense first mind set is on the agenda. Both for different reasons have also struggled on offense of late . This game Im betting stays under the total. 

The Islanders are are 13-5 UNDER  in road games against top tier  offensive teams that take 29 + shots s game and convert 17%+ of their power play opportunities this season and the Blackhawks are 21-8 n the under with the same parameters attached.Chicago also previously lost to the Islanders this season, and are 15-3 UNDER  revenging a loss vs opponent as a road favorite this season, with an average of 4.6 gpg going on the score board.

The 27-year-old net-minder  has allowed two goals or fewer in each of his first 11 career starts and is is 10-0-1, and his 1.39 goals-against average ranks as the NHL's lowest among those with more than three starts since Feb. 16. With that said, Carolina  is 11-0 UNDER  in home games against top tier starting goalies  with Save % saving .915 or better  this season.

Boston won in a way tilt yesterday in a hard fought affair vs the Penguins , by a 2-0 count, and will now be on tired legs and not as capable of playing a solid defensive contest today. In the recent past the Bruins are 6-0 OVER L/6 off a road win where they shut out their opponent , with an average of 6.6 gpg going on the scoreboard. It must be noted that Tuukka Rask, the Bruins goalie is 0-2-3 with a 3.42 goals-against average over five games in his L/5 starts in DC.  Im expecting the Bruins who are consistently scoring of late will after to respond offensively in game that Im betting goes over the number.

Both these teams are revving up for the play offs and defense will begin to take center state. Les Candiens don't have the fire power to free flow with the Isles, but their defense and goaltending and forechecking are formidable, which will allow them to make life difficult for an exceptional skating team like the Islanders. This Im betting leads to a low scoring play off style affair.  

The Habs are 17-6 under  when playing against a team with a winning record this season with an average of 4.2 gpg getting registered  and  20-8 under against top tier offensive teams like the Islanders that take 29 or more shots on goal, and convert 17% +  of their power play opportunities  this season with an average of 4.5 gpg clickcing in . Meanwhile, the Islanders are 7-1 UNDER  against top tier  starting goalies like Mark Price with a  save percentage  .930 or better this season with an average of 4.7 gpg  going on the score board.

Two teams that are preparing for play off drives, will be prepared to play stringent post season style hockey tonight. The Rangers have had a tendency to play more conservative on the road in the past, especially against teams like Detroit who can strike quickly on offense, and that is evident by a 23-9 under mark, on the road against top tier offenses that average 2.85 goals or more per game on the season like Motown foes with the average combined score of those 32 games clicking in at 4.7 gpg.  Value on a combined score that fails to eclipse the total.

The Wild  have been on a tear for more than six weeks thanks to their star goalie Dubnyk. Minnesota is 15-3-2 over its last 20 games .Dubnyk has started all 20 games, posting a 1.64 GAA and five shutouts in that time. Ottawa has shut out Minnesota in consecutive meetings. Meanwhile, Andrew Hammond will be in net again Tuesday for the Senators .Hammond has won his first five career starts, while posting a remarkable , 1.00 GAA while posting two shutouts.The Senators blanked the Wild 3-0 on Jan. 14, 2014, and by the same scoreline Nov. 6 . Im betting the Sens will once again have  ahard time scoring while their own goaltending defense also stands tall.

The Flyers have done alot of their offensive damage of late on the power play  scoring 11  goals on 38 chances in their last 15 games and are 8 for 26 over their last 10 on the road. It must be noted, that Philly has not scored more than 3 goals in a game over their L/10 tilts. Meanwhile, tonight's opponents, Carolina owns the league-best penalty kill , allowing just three goals on 62 opportunities over the last 26 games (95.2 percent). Carolina is 21-7 UNDER against top tier power play units - scoring on  19% or more of their chances this season, with the average combined score of those tilts clicking in at 4.6 gpg. 

Carolina has also for the most part struggled on offense registering 2 goals or less in 7 of their L/10 games.

Rookie Flyer goalie Zepp is 5-1-0 with a 2.63 goals-against average in eight games.

Pittsburgh for whatever reason, has really been struggling on offense of late, scoring 1 goal in 3 straight games, and been shut out 3 times in 12 games. The Penguins are 10-0 UNDER this season after scoring 1 goal or less in their previous game with the average combined score ringing in at 3.8 ppg. 

 Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is 2-2-1 with a 1.76 GAA over a five-game span against the  St. Louis Blues. He has compiled a 1.00 GAA in his last six starts overall.The Blues goaltender Elliott is 5-1-1 with a 2.26 GAA against the Penguins. Pittsburgh has gone under 16 of their L/23 against top tier starting goalies like Elliot this season that have a save % of .915 or better , with the average score of those games clicking in at 4.7 gpg. These franchises have stayed under in 11 of the L/16 meetings dating back over a decade, and 2 straight unders here in St.Louis of late and Im betting on another low scoring tight one this evening.

The Rangers offense has really been on fire of late scoring 22 goals over their L/4 games, 5,6,5,6 respectively. Meanwhile the Canucks have not done to badly either scoring 5 goals on 3 occasions during their L/6 games. Also Vancouver has allowed 4 of more goals in 5 of their L/10 and the Rangers have allowed 3 or more in 7 of their L/10. Considering both teams current forms, Im expecting a fairly high scoring contest,

 Dallas continues to show some weak defensive tendencies having allowed at least 5 goals in 5 of their L/8. Their only saving grace is to do a little bit of scoring themselves. Meanwhile, Calgarys defense has not been much better allowing 21 goals in their L/6 overall and seems to be getting worse as the season has progressed. I know Calgarys offense has stalled of late, but this is a great opportunity for them to get untracked, and that what Im betting they will do. The Flames thanks to their defensive short comings have seen 9 of their L/10 home tilts eclipse the number, including 5 straight vs below .500 teams like Dallas.  These teams have gone over at a 5-0-1 clip in the L/6 meetings here in Calgary, and overall these teams have seen only 2 of their L/16 meetings stay on the low side of the number.

It must be noted Winnipeg looked exhausted in the third period of its loss to the Red Wings, and coach Paul Maurice said  that fatigue played a major factor, as that was his teams 15th game in a 28 day period. Neither teams has the legs to make to a end to end type game, and both sides dont really play that type of hockey. With that said, strategy, golatending and defense will take center stage as will a lower scoring affair that fails to eclipse the total.

Winnipeg  is one of only two teams in the league averaging fewer than two goals per game (1.80), so it comes as little surprise that its power play continues to struggle and ranks 28th.Winnipegs saving grace has been their defense and they have not allowed more than three regulation goals in a 12  tilts. New Jersey also struggles to score consistently and the power play has also been a concern, scoring just 1 time in their L/21 opportunities. With the Jets on tired legs after 5 consecutive road games, Im betting they will play very tight and slow tonight, which will aid in this contest staying under the total.

Meanwhile, in their 25 games this season, the Predators have allowed more than 3 goals just twice. These teams have gone under in 6 of the L/7 meetings and Im betting on one more here this evening.

Tonight he  is expected to get the call in Montreal—he has gone 4-1-1 with a 1.70 GAA and .941 SV% away from the MTS Centre.Pavelec's only two losses in the past seven starts have come in a shootout and he is sporting a 1.98 GAA and .928 save percentage Meanwhile, Montreals puck stopper Price has allowed a total of 15 goals in 8 starts for a 1.87 GAA vs Winnipeg since the franchise moved from Atlanta including 2 shut outs. Im looking for goaltender duel, and a tight defensive affair.

It must be noted that Montreal has failed  on 19 straight power plays while Winnipeg has killed off 18-of-19 penalties in the past six games, this current trend will also help this game on the low side of the number.

These teams have a recent history of high scoring games with only 1 of their L/11 staying under the Total.

It seems their defenses have been the key important comptent to both teams early season successes.  The Ducks have seen 5 straight games remain on the low side of the total, while the Blackhawks are 5-0-1 on the under in their L/6. In the recent past both these teams have played grueling defensive battles against each other, and considering their current forms , another low scoring confrontation should be expected. ( 8 of the L/9 meetings have remained on the low side of the number).

The Islanders have a boatload full of offensive talent now on board, lead by all star John Tavares.  The young Isles might not have names many periphery fans recognize, but guys like Okposo, Strome, Neilson, Nelson, are stars in the making, and pack a punch vs shoddy defenses. Tonight, they face a Toronto Team, that despite of a defensive mind set, behind HC Carlyle, are as leaky as the Titanic, and over rated in goal. The Isles, will Im betting do damage tonight. Meanwhile, the Isles while offensively gifted, still have a few blueline problems despite of off season upgrades, and the penaty kill has also been a problematic with the injured Grabner out of the lineup. Right now Goalie Tuukka Rask is one of the few Bruins showing consistency and I expect he will also be in top form, which Im betting  equates to a low scoring game.

The Kings have potted 76 goals in 21 playoff games, for an average  3.48 per game. All those games were against teams superior to the Rangers. So the  oh so hot Rags goalie  Lundqvist could easily get cooled off quickly, which in turn will have the Rangers playing catch up , which in my humble opinion will produce some wide open hockey. The totals of these NHL games, are always generic around the 5 mark, and look to be very beatable.
