The complexion of this game changed dramatically when New York’s quarterback Geno Smith had his jaw broken in a locker room fight earlier this week. Smith is now out for an extended period time, and the quarterback rotation for tonight’s game has been altered. Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick will now get the start, and he’s expected to play deep into the first quarter. He will be followed by two rookie quarterbacks, Bryce Petty and Blake Heaps. That means the Jets will play two inexperienced quarterbacks for three quarters in this game. Scoring opportunities will be extremely limited for the Jets in this game, especially since the quarterback rotation is extremely weak. Detroit is not taking this game too seriously as head coach Jim Caldwell is very conservative in the preseason. In Caldwell’s first preseason game for Detroit last season, quarterback Matthew Stafford and most of the first-team offense played just one series, resulting in seven total plays. “This game is going to give us an opportunity to work against guys that we don’t know that well, said Caldwell. “We haven’t taken an inordinate amount of time getting prepared for this game, so you’ll see them adjust and adapt, and that’s important in this game.” Following Stafford at quarterback will be Kellen Moore, Dan Orlovsky, and Garrett Gilbert who all have limited ability to make plays with their legs. That limits big gains on broken plays, one of the best assets to have in preseason games for scoring points, especially against second and third string defenses. We expect a low-scoring game between the Jets and Lions on Thursday night. 9* Play UNDER the total.

Houston has won their first two preseason games quite easily; they beat the Panthers 26-13 and they beat the 49ers 20-9. Both of those games were uneventful as the Texans simply wanted to get some reps for their first-team while evaluating the rest of their roster. Tonight

Indianapolis will look to build upon their impressive showing last against the Rams. The Colts racked-up 38 points with quarterback Andrew Luck playing exceptional in his first game as a pro. Luck completed 10 of his 16 passes for 188 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Granted, Luck will face a stiffer test tonight in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers have numerous injuries on their defense so Luck will not face a stop unit that is at full strength. The Colts new offensive coordinator is Bruce Arians who held the same position in Pittsburgh for the last seven seasons. Arians was basically forced out and tonight

Jacksonville was a dismal offensive team last season. But things look much brighter for the Jaguars this season. After an overhaul on the coaching staff, Mike Mularkey is the new head coach with Bob Bratkowski the new offensive coordinator. The two are quite familiar with each other as they were on the Atlanta staff last season and members of the Pittsburgh staff in previous years. Both guys are looking for Jacksonville to be more of a passing offense, and quarterback Blaine Gabbert has had tremendous growth from his rookie season. And the presence of Chad Henne has amplified the competition which has ignited the offense. Last week, the Jags scored 32 points in their preseason opener against the Giants. In tonight

Washington won their opening preseason game 16-7 over Pittsburgh. However, the Redskins should have scored way more than just 16 points in that game. They had a whopping 452 yards of total offense in that game with 312 of those yards coming through the air. Washington also had a total of 27 first downs which shows that they were able to move the ball up and down the field at will. Their problem was closing out drives as they only scored one touchdown and settled for three field goals including two from inside the red zone.
The Redskins main focus tonight is to finish off their drives with touchdowns. Head coach Mike Shanahan has said his starters will play the entire first half and he

New England came out firing on all cylinders in their 27-24 win over the Saints last week. The Patriots put a lot of effort and game planning into that game in order to start off their season on a positive note, even though it was just their first preseason game. Tom Brady and the first team offense saw a lot of action playing into the second quarter. And not to be outdone, the Saints kept pace with New England and the game turned into a high-scoring shootout. However, we expect a totally different pace to tonight
