Not too much action in the NBA after the big Martin Luther King Day celebration. However, one NBA game has a couple events happening plus we have the biggest line moves against the betting odds in college hoops and in hockey. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll. (343-289 L112D)

NBA – (503) SAN ANTONIO at (504) DENVER  9:05 ET  FSSW, ATL  (side and total)

Those making sports picks are so convinced of the outcome of this contest; they adjusted the NBA odds to their liking anticipating a particular result. The Spurs are as healthy as they have been all season and have won and covered three straight, allowing just 86 points per game in the process. Denver, after their five-game winning streak has dumped a trio of tilts (0-2-1 ATS) and have risen like the nearby Rocky Mountains from +6 to +8. The Nuggets average 101.7 PPG on the season, but in these losses, they have bottomed out at 91 PPG. Dating back to 1996, the Spurs are 26-13 and 26-11-2 ATS at a mile high and given recent developments, the total sinking two points to 203 fits the mold. SWM Take – Lean San Antonio and Under

CBB – (507) VALPARAISO at (508) YOUNGSTOWN STATE  7:00 ET  ESPN3.com

Valparaiso might have the best overall record in the Horizon League at 17-3 (9-5-1 ATS) and be tied for second place, but those putting together college basketball picks are less impressed and lowered the Crusaders from -10 to -8.5 at Youngstown State. The Penguins are a nasty 0-6 (1-5 ATS) in league action, while Valpo has won four in a row since their opener (3-1 ATS). Evidently there are those who are convinced Youngstown will supply a big effort, which appears farfetched since the Penguins are 1-10 ATS revenging a road loss the last two seasons. SWM Take – Lean Valparaiso

CBB – (535) UTAH STATE at (536) NEVADA  10:00 ET

After slipping by rival UNLV 64-62 13 days ago as 9.5-point road underdogs, Nevada lost to Fresno State 69-66 and was brutalized at Colorado State 98-42. Though it was an epic beatdown, the wagering public likes the Wolf Pack and dropped them from +2 to a Pick versus Utah State. While this is not the same Aggies team we have witnessed the last decade, Nevada is shooting 38.8 percent from the field and Utah State’s usually stingy defense is conceding only 56 PPG in Mountain West Conference action. Toss in the Aggies average three more three-balls per game and I’ll toss my support their direction. SWM Take – Utah State covers

NHL – (51) OTTAWA at (52) N.Y. RANGERS  7:05 ET  RDS2, MSG

When a team has won 15 of 18 and is playing on home ice, not many NHL hockey handicappers or sportsbooks are going to recommend betting against this team. Nonetheless, the New York Rangers have fallen from their -200 money line perch to -180 against Ottawa, who has lost five of seven. Most sports bettors might wonder how this could be or other more colorful language or thoughts. The Senators are 26-10 at Madison Square Garden going back 19 years and tonight’s expected starting goalie, Craig Anderson, has won all six of his regular-season starts at MSG while posting a 1.14 goals-against average – his best at any venue where he’s played more than once. Certainly makes for intrigue! SWM Take – Lean Ottawa
